This weekend in the Adirondacks

(Jan 24, 2025) Chance of lake effect snow in western and northwestern Adirondacks. High Peak summits have four feet+ snow and will see windchills in the 20s below zero. Use caution on ice, especially around inlets and outlets.

(Jan 16, 2025) All ski facilities open this weekend. Windchills on summits in mid-teens below zero on Sunday. Most of the Jackrabbit Ski Trail is skiable.

(Jan 10, 2025) Windchills on High Peaks ranging from single digits below 0 to single digits above. Snow depths range wildly around the region. Snowmobile trails are now mostly open.

(Jan 3, 2025) Very cold wind chills on summits, into mid-20s below zero. Chance of snow showers through weekend, mostly limited to upper elevations. Skiing will be limited, except at facilities.

(Dec 20, 2024) Saturday could see up to several inches of new snow. Summit temperatures will not rise out of the teens through the weekend.

(Dec 13, 2024) Many of the region's ski areas now open. Cold and dry, with temps about 5 degrees below seasonal average. About 1ft of snow above 2,500ft and in Northern ADK lake effect areas.

(Dec 5, 2024) Temperatures on High Peaks summits expected to be in the single digits, with windchills up to twenty below zero. About 15 inches of snow at Lake Colden, and up to two feet at higher elevations.

(Nov 29, 2024) Almost a foot of snow at Lake Colden. High Peaks windchills into single digits below zero. Whiteface and Gore Mountain now open daily.

(Nov 22, 2024) Higher elevations could see up to a foot of snow and windchills below zero. No ice should be considered safe. Whiteface and Gore will be open this weekend.

(Nov 15, 2024) Statewide burn ban. Moderate to High fire danger around the region. Windchills into the single digits on summits. Gore and Whiteface opening.

(Nov 8, 2024) Summit forecasts are calling for winds 40 to 50 miles per hour today with below freezing temperatures through most of Saturday.

(Nov 1, 2024) Summit temperatures in the lower 20s and 30s, with windchills in the teens. Fire danger remains elevated. Bear canisters still required in High Peaks.

(Sep 27, 2024) Leaves are at mid-point to near peak around the Adirondacks. Weather will bring out the crowds. Fall bird migration under way.

(Sep 20, 2024) Leaves have reached their midpoint in the highest elevations. Fire danger is moderate. Water levels well below normal.

(Sep 12, 2024) Leaves are just changing around the ADKs. Waters at their normal lower fall levels. Expect popular areas to be busy.

(Sep 6, 2024) Forecast calling for clouds and showers Saturday and Sunday. Water levels near their normal lower fall levels.

(Aug 30, 2024) Have alternative plans at the ready, just in case. Water levels have fallen to more seasonable levels. 25 miles of the ADK Rail Trail officially open from Lake Placid to Floodwood Rd.

(Aug 22, 2024) Water levels remain high around the region. Beaver activity causing flooding in the Whitney and Round Lake Wildernesses.

(Aug 15, 2024) Some stream crossings will remain difficult or impassable. Check for backcountry road closures. Hudson just over 4ft at North Creek.

(Aug 9, 2024) Tropical Storm Debby moving through the region with heavy rain and possibility of flooding. Hudson river headed to 6 feet at North Creek.
