Episodes

66: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (40th Anniversary) 07.09.2022

We're thrilled to be at The Light cinema this week for the director's cut of our favourite Star Trek Movie. Plus Three Thousand Years of Longing, a first look at the trailer for Don't Worry Darling and our Questions for Jables segment gets off to a good start: if you could bring back a cancelled series or franchise, which would it be?

65: Beast 31.08.2022

Not even Idris Elba can win over the whole team in the most recent killer beast flick. At least we've got a good idea for a Day Shift sequel (just add Ice-T - you heard it here first!). Plus thoughts on the Wakanda Forever teaser and a plea for input to our new Questions for Jables segment.

64: Day Shift 24.08.2022

Part action horror, part buddy comedy, this week's streaming choice charms us with its likeable cast, good humour and fun take on vampire lore. Plus our thoughts on She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, a revisit of Elvis and Jables realises that dance fighting really isn't for him when he watches West Side Story.

63: Nope and Prey 17.08.2022

We say yep to Nope this week, plus Jables is (mostly) pleasantly surprised by Predator prequel Prey.

62: Bullet Train and The Sandman 10.08.2022

We're on the Bullet Train with a mysterious passenger this week as we finally get to watch and discuss Netflix' The Sandman.

61: Thor: Love and Thunder 03.08.2022

Late to the Thor party but back from Covid, we're treading that fine line between enjoying a film and thinking it's not very good. Also Crawl, a rewatch of The Rock and Jables watches Persuasion on Our Kid's recommendation...with surprising results.

60: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent 28.07.2022

As Covid continues to keep us out of the cinema, we cheer ourselves up with this recent gem starring Nicholas Cage as himself. We also catch up on our bumper crop of recent viewing, including Turning Red, Persuasion and old favourite Candleshoe, plus Jables updates us on film news from Comicon with trailers for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Wakanda Forever, Black Adam and Halloween En...

59: Minions and Minions 2: The Rise of Gru 06.07.2022

A mini-episode this week due to Covid, Jables joins us via Zoom to talk about Minions whilst Our Kid and Producer Ben go to the cinema and report back on superior follow up The Rise of Gru.

58: The Black Phone 29.06.2022

Another divisive entry this week has Jables and Our Kid appreciating the psychological drama and 70s vibes, whilst Producer Ben isn't convinced - though he is a bit grumpy this week! Also Jables reviews Elvis and gives his final thoughts on the first series of Obi-Wan.

57: Everything Everywhere All at Once 22.06.2022

A group viewing at a new venue charms us this week with stunning visuals, a brilliant cast and beautifully absurd humour. Plus Our Kid and Producer Ben discuss the British version of Call My Agent, Ten Percent, whilst Jables considers the revisionist history of Pistol.

56: Jurassic World Dominion 15.06.2022

Fancy a mashup of lots of other films, not necessarily dinosaur themed? In that case, look no further than this week's offering, where we find references to everything from Jason Bourne to Cloverfield to Star Wars. Also, Our Kid demonstrates her credentials as world's worst sister when she goes to see Everything Everywhere All at Once...without Jables.

55: Men 08.06.2022

We didn't think we were in the mood for the psychological depths of Men this week, however it proved to be a surprise hit with the team. Plus final thoughts on Stranger Things 4 (Volume 1) and Jables catches up on Obi Wan and The Boys (Season 3).

54: Top Gun Maverick 01.06.2022

Tom Cruise's stock seems to be rising high again, even in the Jables team. Plus, in the fighting spirit of the last few weeks, we can't agree on Stranger Things 4 - good retro fun or just more tired nostalgia?

53: Jables Awards 2022 25.05.2022

A whole year in and it's time for the first annual Jables Awards! Join us as we review the best and worst of what we've been watching this year.

52: Firestarter 18.05.2022

Firestarter hits us like an average TV movie on a rainy Sunday. Still, at least there's Eurovision. Plus, in a double down shocker, Jables has been reflecting on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and come to the conclusion that Jables was absolutely right all along.

51: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 11.05.2022

Jables and Our Kid come to blows over Doctor Strange's latest outing this week: quality fun or annoying slog? It may never get settled. Also a bit of nostalgia with Wall Street, Cemetery Junction and Edge of Seventeen, and we finish Reacher.

50: Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop 04.05.2022

We're going low key spooky round at the folks' house this week and finally enjoy what we're seeing! Plus Jables waxes lyrical about Midsomer whilst Our Kid and Producer Ben ponder Dark Encounter and get in a bank holiday binge of The Detectorists.

49: Operation Mincemeat 27.04.2022

This week's film has us asking whether we will ever leave the cinema saying: 'Wow, that was great!' We had a (relatively) better time watching Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Plus a Moon Knight update and details of upcoming plans for the Jables Awards.

48: The Lost City 20.04.2022

Sadly The Lost City is the latest contender for this year's Most Disappointing Film at the upcoming Jables Awards (more on that soon!). At least the Bank Holiday has given us time to catch up with Indiana Jones, James Bond and Zorro, as well as getting us back to the desert with Duel, though Producer Ben would rather forget about The Phantom of the Opera.

47: All The Old Knives 13.04.2022

Back to streaming this week and we're opting for a grown-up thriller with All The Old Knives on Prime. Plus The Sparks Brothers, catching up on Reacher and a Moon Knight update.

46: Morbius 06.04.2022

This week we're underwhelmed by Morbius and overwhelmed by Moon Knight. Plus Jables' thoughts on The Witch and Florence Foster Jenkins and Our Kid and Producer Ben's weekend of biopics: The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Hitchcock and Can You Ever Forgive Me?

45: Ambulance 30.03.2022

‘Like Fast and Furious 9 but without the existentialism’ is how Jables describes Michael Bay's love letter to LA, which left us exhausted but not exhilarated. Also Our Kid is keeping up with The Dropout on Disney+ whilst Jables and Producer Ben get nostalgic about This Is Spinal Tap and The Naked Gun.

44: X 23.03.2022

X marks, and hits, the spot this week in the newly refurbished Screen 3. Plus Jables enjoys the season opener of Formula 1 and Black Crab while Producer Ben and Our Kid show their age with Interior Design Masters. Really.

43: The Adam Project 16.03.2022

Producer Ben surprises us with his positive take on this week's family sci-fi, The Adam Project on Netflix. Plus Drive to Survive and much excitement about trailers for Obi-Wan and Moon Knight.

42: The Batman 09.03.2022

Jables and Our Kid reminisce about our relationship with Batman over the years and wonder whether The Batman feels like a trip back to the 90s. Also new episodes of Picard and Producer Ben is forced to fess up to his recent romcom viewing.
