Episodes

91: Cocaine Bear 08.03.2023

More misses than hits this week as our disappointing run of current films continues. We're also talking about We Have a Ghost on Netflix and it turns out Producer Ben is a Spirograph - who knew?

90: The Terminator 01.03.2023

Our love for the 1984 classic hasn't waned since first viewing. We also have a special guest joining us for part 2.

89: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 22.02.2023

The latest Marvel offering lacks the warmth and charm of the previous Ant-Man films, leaving us wondering if it's an Ant-Man film at all or a weak episode of Rick and Morty. We're also talking about the US version of our beloved series Ghosts and Producer Ben goes old school gangster with We Still Kill the Old Way.

88: Red Planet 15.02.2023

Not much on this week so we're Chez Jables with a 'vintage' DVD. We're also talking Superbowl trailers for The Flash, Guardians 3, The Three Musketeers and 65, plus Producer Ben convinces Jables to watch Greenland.

87: Knock at the Cabin 08.02.2023

A great cast can't save this week's feature from its stupid premise. At least Jables is enjoyed Lockwood and Co and we're are also talking about the upcoming showing of The Terminator with Retro Reels.

86: Plane 01.02.2023

It's a meeting of the Gerard Butler Appreciation Society this week as Plane has us talking all things Gerry B. Plus Producer Ben keeps trying to decide what he thinks of stop-motion epic Mad God and Jables finally gets around to Empire of Light.

85: Gremlins 25.01.2023

We're hanging out in 1984 with Gizmo, Billy and those little green fiends. Never has the destruction of a small town been so much fun!

84: M3gan 18.01.2023

What if Chucky took a psychology course? Jables finds the answer in this week's feature. Also Things Heard and Seen, Kaleidoscope and Swan Lake at the London Coliseum (really!).

83: A Man Called Otto 11.01.2023

A decent return to the cinema this week with the latest likeable Tom Hanks vehicle. We're also talking The Pale Blue Eye and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, which has us asking whether Stanley Tucci is America's answer to Jim Broadbent.

82: The Northman 04.01.2023

With little to tempt us into the cinema this week, we're hitting the streaming for one of Jables' festive choices. We're also talking about Glass Onion, going retro with the original School For Scoundrels and Jables gives us a look at what's coming up in 2023.

81: Festive Special 2022 21.12.2022

It's that time of year again when we get out the Radio Times and talk about what we'll be watching over the festive break. Jables also manages to convince the rest of us not to bother with Avatar 2 and Producer Ben plugs the Retro Reels showing of Gremlins. Enjoy and see you next in 2023!

80: Hellraiser (2022) 14.12.2022

With not much on at the big screen for us this week we've hit the streaming and found the surprisingly enjoyable Hellraiser reboot. Our Kid and Producer Ben also discuss their second viewing of Violent Night and Jables gets an email from Stripe the Gremlin.

79: Violent Night 07.12.2022

We're having a right laugh this week when Violent Night brings all the festive carnage we didn't know we needed so much. We're also talking about Wednesday, Troll and the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but it's really all about the blood-soaked Man with the Bag.

78: She Said 30.11.2022

A hard hitting dramatization of a famous New York Times investigation leaves us better informed, but with the realization that a serious film about the film industry is pretty difficult to get right. Also, Our Kid gets Disenchanted and Jables sends us off to Slumberland.

77: The Menu 23.11.2022

It's all about metaphors this week as we delve into the world of haute cuisine with a sinister twist. Producer Ben also manages to cancel himself and educate us about what the goings on at Disney might mean for future viewing.

76: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 16.11.2022

Messy and convoluted, the latest Marvel offering leaves us feeling sad for all the wrong reasons, though Producer Ben substituting his weekly car moment for a one time M'Baku moment is something to look forward to.

75: Werewolf By Night 09.11.2022

We're hitting Zoom this week as Our Kid and Producer Ben give up an hour of their holiday to enjoy this special Marvel creature feature, as well as talking about Decision to Leave, Enola Holmes 2 and The Devil's Hour.

74: The Lost Boys 31.10.2022

80s classic The Lost Boys? Released early this week as a Halloween special, we're talking vampires, fun and crazy fashion - if only they still made films this good!

73: Black Adam 26.10.2022

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but Black Adam is fine. We also get round to discussing our thoughts on She-Hulk, Producer Ben reviews Manga classic Paprika and Jables gives us film news in the form of a quiz.

72: Hocus Pocus 2 19.10.2022

It's Just No Jables this week and Our Kid and Producer Ben are gearing up for Halloween with a Hocus Pocus special and even more shameless plugging of Retro Reels.

71: Amsterdam 12.10.2022

Excruciating is the only was to describe this weeks choice, which leaves us confused and disappointed. Also The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, The Bear on Disney+ and Producer Ben announces our exciting new project, Retro Reels, with an upcoming showing of 1987 classic The Lost Boys.

70: Smile 05.10.2022

That's what I want to see: a nice big smile! This week's film takes us back to horror and a mostly enjoyable debut. We also review a week of TV that includes Rings of Power, Andor (not to be confused with Endor, Producer Ben!) and a revisit of the Bros documentary.

69: Don't Worry Darling 28.09.2022

Jables has a bit of a rant about this week's highly anticipated thriller, which sadly proves our theory that a film with potential can often be more disappointing than a film that's just rubbish. At least Our Kid has season 4 of Ghosts to be happy about.

68: The Gray Man 21.09.2022

A short bank holiday episode this week, our streaming choice finds us discussing the merits of film by algorithm and how well loafers without socks can define a character.

67: See How They Run 14.09.2022

Back to the Majestic for a wacky murder mystery and Jables scars Our Kid for life with the image of Columbo in his underpants. At least Producer Ben's news segment on the state of the film industry (threatened for weeks and finally here!) brings us back to reality, along with trailers for Amsterdam and Oppenheimer and this week's Question for Jables on his favourite film nemesis.
