Aoife Deane. Dietitian, Hypnotherapist
The Happy Weight Podcast
Hi, I’m Aoife. I’m a Registered Dietitian with an MSc in Nutritional Medicine and a Clinical Hypnotherapist. But my most important qualification is that I started dieting at 11 and spent the next 18 years yo-yo dieting, moving up and down four dress sizes and developing binge eating disorder and bulimia. I used to envy slim people who loved food, but didn’t obsess over it. Now I’m one of them. Through this podcast, I’d love to share the skills, tools, and mindset I learned through my own struggles and 17 years of helping others.

In this episode, I break down these moments and suggest a new way of seeing them and reacting that facilitates more progress towards our happy ever after.
EP104.How To Stop Boredom Eating 18.05.2026 13:46
Hosting a party this week meant I needed to do a lot of cleaning and housework. Instead of getting started, I spent 2 days eating more chocolate than I have in ages and playing video games on my phone. It reminded me so clearly of how things used to feel when I did that all the time. In this episode, I talk about spotting our patterns, becoming more aware of our needs, emotional and physical cues,...

When we're feeling burnt out, demotivated, something is up. This is not on track. EP102. Stop "Trying" to lose weight 04.05.2026 35:11
When we're "trying" to lose weight, we go through our day coming from a place of "I'm a fat person trying to get slim." And so, with every day that passes, we are becoming less like a person who doesn't have eating and weight issues. In this episode, I walk through...

EP 99. Hidden Reasons You Overeat 13.04.2026 22:26
The difficult part about coming out of eating and weight issues is that our mind plays the same tricks on us, over and over again, that make us go back to mindless eating, overeating, and binging. It's not just about weight; it's about missing out on a nice relationship with food because of the stories our mind tells us or the addictive, negative thoughts we keep telling ourselves that block us fr...

Fat is a feeling, not a size. And those heavy feelings and heavy thoughts, keep us stuck in heavy habits with food and our body. EP 96. 2 Things to stop if you want to become your ideal weight 24.03.2026 27:45
Dieting is different than becoming your ideal weight. Becoming your ideal weight means no longer doing things that a dieter in a diet/ overeat cycle would do. Being intentional about results means intentionally stopping things we did often in a weight problem. If you struggle with overeating, weight worries, or a difficult relationship with food, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it...

Slán go Feoil 📺☘️🥩 14.03.2026 10:36
Speaking a bit of Irish to celebrate Lá Fhéile Pádraig ☘️ and Seachtain na Gaeilge ! (Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste ☺️) I recently appeared on the RTÉ show Slán Go Feoil , where seven participants went meat-free for one month. In this episode, I share some of the topics discussed on the programme, the best parts of the vegetarian diet and how what we eat can support a healthier gut...
Ep 94. Weight Loss rules for comfort eaters 10.03.2026 21:39
As comfort eaters, dieting is more likely to make us gain weight, through off phases, cheat days and binge eating. Letting go of a weight problem is very different when we are looking at things more permanently, and also once we accept what we can and cannot do, rather than forcing what has never worked. This episodes give you some steers if you are a comfort eater / emotional eater or binge eater...

EP 92. What I ate in a day that made overeating & binging worse 24.02.2026 28:52
Back in 2011/2012, I was a qualified dietitian, seeing clients all day, and then secretly bingeing most evenings and weekends. What I didn't know at the time, was that my strict diets, food rules and all the misinformation I was following, were what made my binges inevitable. This episode is basically a what-not-to-do, with plenty of tips on what to do instead to help you quit overeating and h...

Ep 89. How to say no to foods you don't want or need 03.02.2026 22:28
Being clear on what food we love. What's worth it, when it's worth it, versus what food we don't love and isn't worth it, is an important part of getting and remaining at our healthy weight. Habits can be overpowering. We can feel stuck in a cycle of saying yes to things and then a few minutes later, annoyed at ourselves for eating it. This episode is about giving you power back by...
