We are presented with divine opportunities to spread the message of Jesus. Like Philip in Acts 8:26-40, we must all learn to seize these opportunities so that more lives are changed by the gospel.

The church is “on fire” in the power of the Spirit, and we get to read about it, and study it, and learn from this young, vibrant church that is exploding. As we move into Acts 8 with this message, we witness the gospel advancing again, transforming people and families and culture.

Luke describes the remarkable Christlike life and ministry of Stephen, whose martyrdom advanced the mission of God. Pastor Phil walks through Stephen's life and ministry and unpacks the challenge he presents to each one us.

The church in Acts was growing rapidly. This growth brought challenges as the 12 Apostles realized they couldn't effectively minister to everyone. The church was forced to adapt in order to stay focused on the mission of God. We will need to adapt as well if we want to keep reaching people and making disciples.

Every failing leader, and every failing athlete, and every failing church has the same problem: The core is malfunctioning. The core is broken in some significant way. The latter half of Acts 5 illustrates what can happen when the gospel of Jesus Christ is the heart, the center, the core of the church.

Acts 5:1-11 describes the first instance of internal trouble within the early church. The trouble is caused by hypocrisy and deliberate deception. As we look at this passage we will find that any amount of hypocrisy is ALWAYS bad for the church.

While at the temple, Peter and John performed a miracle of healing in Jesus' name. Peter then took the opportunity to explain that Jesus truly is the Messiah and that forgiveness of sins is available in Him.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” This is one of the most quoted verses in Acts 2, following the descent of the Holy Spirit. It’s a profound expression of true fellowship, and Pastor Phil helps us understand how best to apply it!

The followers of Jesus waited, just like he said. It has now been 50 days, and the feast of Pentecost was here! "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." The Spirit of God is poured out upon the disciples, and everything changed in that moment!

Depending on the church, the role of deacons varies significantly. At The Gathering, we want the role to be informed by the New Testament. Pastor Phil explains that deacons are Spirit-filled, qualified individuals who help to meet the practical needs of the church

There is a big difference between board-elders and shepherding-elders, and our church is served by the latter because we believe it is the model presented in the New Testament. Acknowledging Jesus as the supreme head of the church is important to The Gathering as we seek to make more disciples and plant more churches for the glory of God. He’s the boss of the church, and our leadership teams, the elders and deacons and pastors, must submit to Jesus before they can lead the church into what God has planned for us.

We are forgetful people and we need reminders. As we begin a new year, Pastor Phil walks through Isaiah 53 and reminds us of the significance of the cross and that Jesus was born to die.

Jesus is coming again! That day is approaching! And he will judge the living and the dead. So we better be ready for his appearing! Be ready in season and out of season – when it’s convenient and when it’s not. Listen in as Pastor Garth explains 2 Timothy 4:1-8.

It was a glorious night that changed the course of history. It was a night of miracles, when God sent his Son to be our Saviour. It was the night when love was born, and now God’s love is available to all who trust in His Son Jesus.

Jesus was convinced. He said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” And most people who receive the Kingdom of God like a child actually believe that God can do anything, and that all the power in the universe belongs to him. Today we’re looking at God’s power with childlike faith….

Children are usually magnanimous when it comes to forgiveness. They give and receive forgiveness easily. Maybe that’s why Jesus said unless we become like a child we cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Forgiveness is critical!

You can use a 50-cent theological word like omnipresence to state the fact that God is present everywhere at all times. Or, in child-like faith you can say, "God is with me," right here, right now, and always! This Christmas we are looking at some characteristics of God from the perspective of a child. Join us!
