Spoil Me

Thank you to Abbey for commissioning this episode! These chapters find me a little more patient with Sameth and Lirael than before, if only because they're both facing some serious shit now. Sameth especially is really fucking going through it, being followed by gore crows and dead hands so that he can't sleep and can't drop his guard for a second. Then there's what is going on with Lirael, which...

Thank you very much to Melanie for commissioning this episode, and this entire book! This final chapter is really surprising. Looking back now, I realize that I'm really thrown off by the fact that Geralt doesn't turn up in the final chapters, and that everything focuses on Ciri. I don't have a problem with it, but it's definitely a departure from what I was expecting. Ciri takes her life into her...

Thank you so much to the late Jason Brough for commissioning this episode. This is the last of his commissions, but his involvement with UNspoiled will always be remembered and appreciated. These chapters are really fucking agonizing, but also really truly...cathartic? Is that the right word? I'm delighted for things to end with Nassun the way they do, which is to say that she's sick of other peop...

Thank you to Rachel for commissioning this episode! This episode of Veronica Mars is centered on a subject that is tough for a lot of us, which is rape, and specifically the rape of young women on college campuses. Often, colleges do not penalize fraternities that engage in the kind of behavior that is depicted in this episode, so it's nice that we get to indulge in a fantasy where shitty people a...

Thank you to Ashleigh for commissioning this episode! These chapters are full of interesting little developments, but one of the worst is the moment when Stara's father forcibly reads her mind. It's invasive, a violation, and done with no concern or apology of any kind. Her father sees her as a piece of merchandise, and he's treating her the way one would a dog that starts showing weird symptoms....

Thank you so much to Tristen for commissioning this episode! I'm really loving this book, and I'm fascinated by the variety of ways that this author has utilized magic and different methods of using it. In these chapters, one of the most fascinating things happens; Dairine connects her magical computer to the actual planet itself that she's sitting on, which is made of the same conductive material...

Thank you to Melanie for commissioning this episode! I'm once again flummoxed that the end of the book is almost here and so many questions remain unanswered, but I'm also at a loss when I try to think of a specific mystery that I want answers to. There's been a lot of complicated moments in these books, but this chapter is refreshingly simple. All that happens here is that Ciri comes through a po...

Thank you to Rachel for commissioning this episode! I'm glad that the Veronica Mars episodes will be getting a little more steady from here on out, because I missed some of these characters and I really still have no theory on who blew up this damn bus. In this episode, Veronica is asked to find a woman who is supposed to be getting married in a couple days and has suddenly disappeared. This lady...

Thank you to Jason for commissioning this episode. While Jason is no longer with us, he's still a part of UNspoiled! and there is another episode coming up this week with his name on it. These chapters are really intense, which is true of all of them to a degree, but this one is particularly drastic. Nassun turns a corner here and decides to kill a whole fulcrum full of orogenes because she feels...

Thanks so much to Melanie for commissioning this episode! I can't help but laugh at the fact that this podcast is only covering one twenty-minute episode and I STILL almost went over time. Melanie, you made the right call booking the Halloween– ahem, excuse me, Summerween– episode as a solo instead of a double. This episode has a charming premise. There's a monster that has formed out of the disca...

Thank you very much to Yama for commissioning this episode! I'm really hopeful that more of Rome gets commissioned, because I'm pretty into this show's decision to tell a story and just stand back and let it unfold without really seeming to take a side on what it's showing us. I think that's kind of rare, and I'm going to be interested if this is a trend that continues. This episode, Cesar marches...

Thank you SO VERY MUCH to Nicole for commissioning this episode of Killing Eve, which she commissioned before even having watched a single episode herself. SO GREAT IS HER FAITH! This episode was so interesting because it deals in the groundwork being laid for a special team led by Eve, and I'm a big fan of the show dealing honestly with how her former boss would react to suddenly being ordered ar...

Thank you to Ashleigh for commissioning this episode! These chapters are really interesting because we're starting to get into some stuff that I think will develop into the Guild that we know from the other trilogy. The most important thing in that regard is the idea of magical birth control, which Tessia is really surprised to hear about. But of course, really, the focus of this section is the ch...

Thanks to Emery for commissioning this episode! This episode was so great, and I'm so glad y'all are coming together to commission this show. 'Where's The Bathroom' is definitely one of my favorite songs on this show so far, and I'm low-key in love with Rebecca's mom even though she's the absolute WORST. This episode is all about growing up, and each of our mains deals with this in their own way....

Hey there, beautiful people! Thanks to Abbey for commissioning this episode of Lirael! I had a lot of sympathy for Lirael last episode, but that patience is at an end. She's not hearing the words that are being said to her, instead choosing to filter it all through the misconception the everyone around her sees her as somehow Other, a freak. Meanwhile, I've also lost patience with Sameth, who is e...

Thanks to Ashleigh for commissioning this episode! So this was a total shock, huh? I don't think any of us readers were expecting for a Sachakan attack to start this quickly. And I know for a FACT that none of the Kyralians were. Damn. There's other stuff happening, of course, like getting introduced to Jayan's bastard of a father, but frankly everything is kind of overshadowed by the attack that...

Thanks a ton to Michael for commissioning this episode! This episode dealt with some of the issues that I had brought up in other episodes, namely what it's like to watch people die, know it's coming, and be helpless to do anything. Also, I had been wondering about why this mission would have chosen a host body that was addicted to heroin, and it turns out that's not supposed to happen, either. Th...

Thanks to Abbey for commissioning another episode of Lirael! This has been a lot of fun to read now that we're in more than one POV, and I feel like the author is really getting better at setting up who these characters are before we get into the main adventure. Lirael isn't having the best time. Spoiler alert, neither is Sameth. He's supposed to be studying the Book Of The Dead, and yet just touc...

Thank you very much to Jill for commissioning this next episode of Dark! I'm very very excited about this show and hopeful that I will be covering it more steadily in coming months. This episode is all about revelations, secrets, and shame. Not everyone is found out, however; we've still got Peter being a creep and very suspicious for reasons we still aren't aware of. But Hannah, your time has com...

Thanks to Denise for commissioning this episode! I'm really starting to get....almost overwhelmed is the word I think...at how deep this story is and its layers of symbolism. Like, this is some real shit here. Oof. These chapters deal with poor Nassun mostly, and the fact that she's starting to tap into something that most Orogenes never seem to find, which means that her abilities are branching o...

Thank you again to Patricia for commissioning this entire book! This was such a fun one, and I think this is my favorite finale of all the Diana Wynne Jones books so far. This series of chapters, Christopher has to retrieve the Chrestomanci's lives from where they've been called into series Eleven, and it takes all of Tacroy's training to get him in and out of there in one piece. He winds up havin...

Thank you very much to Martin for commissioning this episode! I'm glad to be getting back into this world, as I feel in some ways it has the most potential for surprises of many things I'm covering at the moment. These chapters are when Nona starts to meet other classmates and starts on her studies of both academics and combat. She makes friends easily enough, but she's so aware that being too goo...

Thank you to Patricia for commissioning this episode! It's almost time to say goodbye to these characters, and I really don't want to do it. This book has been so much fun and I kind of want there to be an ongoing series with these characters and their hijinks. Because, boy, do they get up to hijinks. These chapters are mostly about Tacroy being captured and the revelation (FINALLY) that Christoph...

Thank you so much to Ashleigh for commissioning this episode, and for her patience when I messed up and had to delay the episode.

Thank you so much to Melanie for commissioning this episode! So I had had some trouble with following the story in previous chapters, but this one was a lot easier for me. The whole chapter jumps back and forth between Dandelion past and present, as he tracks down the Witcher and tells him about all that has been going on in the land since he was injured. What it boils down to is that there's a to...
