Why does God seem hidden? The book of Esther is in our Bible to help us wrestle with that question. This series starts with a background to the book and a look at the first chapter.

Three members of our congregation share how God has revealed to them how they have been Adopted By the Father.

In this section, John presents three facets of the human person that are confronted by Jesus. Mind, Spirit, and Will.

In this dense, theologically rich section of scripture, Jesus conveys three things. We need spiritual food. Jesus is our spiritual food. We need to consume Jesus.

In the feeding of the 5,000 we learn that we can trust that Jesus knows our needs and that he can meet our needs.

In this section, Jesus is going to finish his defense regarding healing on the Sabbath by appealing to the witness of John the Baptist, The Father's works, and the scriptures.

Jesus is being accused of a crime - working on the Sabbath - and he is going to begin to defend himself from those charges.

John 5 begins with a retelling of Jesus healing of a man at the pool of Bethesda.

Chapter 4 ends with John telling us about Jesus' second sign in Galilee. He shows us that the signs serve a purpose and what we need to do to really experience that purpose.

Jesus' encounter with the woman at the well serves as a reminder that the gospel is indeed good news, and that we can experience joy in Jesus.

In this section, Jesus encounters a Samaritan woman at a well. His interaction with her reveals much about the character of God.

In these four verses, Peter gives us a few things that we should expect if we are Christians. We should expect God, we should expect good, and we should expect difficult.

Chapter three continues the scene from last week. John is using this story to give us insight into why Jesus is a better leader to follow than John the Baptist - or any other leader.

In this section, John the Baptist uses a metaphor of the best man at a wedding to describe his love for Jesus and his joy that Jesus is at work claiming his bride.

Chapter 3 continues with the theme of Jesus making all things new. This section asks, "What does it mean to be born again?"

John tells the story of the cleansing of the temple. This is a story about purification, fulfillment, and a new reality.

Chapter 2 begins with Jesus' first sign at a wedding in Cana. We see that Jesus reveals his glory in three ways: as Lord, through joy, and in marriage.

We all place our trust in something. Is that something for us or against us? The conclusion to the first chapter of John shows us that Jesus is for us.

John gives us another picture of people who encounter Jesus and how their lives are reshaped by him.

If we are to know and follow Jesus, Jesus will make us smaller. Knowing Jesus takes away our control. Knowing Jesus limits our choices. Knowing Jesus redefines our agency.

In this section, John shows us that God's presence in Jesus does three things. He shows us what God is like, He saves us, and He draws us into God's life.

In this section of the Gospel of John, the author John talks about John the Baptist and unfolds three truths about life and their meaning for us. 

The first five verses highlight big ideas about Jesus that John is going to come back to over and over again: Jesus is God; Jesus is Creator; and Jesus is Salvation.
