In 1 Timothy 2:11-15, Paul addressed the role of submission in which God placed women. This must be accepted and obeyed regardless of what society we live in. It is noted as a matter of the order of creation, and the transgression of Eve in the beginning.

The display of Christ’s love for us in His death on the cross urges us to act in various ways toward Him and God. “For the love of Christ compels us” (2 Corinthians 5:14) to be devoted to God’s will, obedient to God’s will, to abstain from sin, to present ourselves as a living sacrifice, and to endure to the end.

Christians are to be those who profess godliness. The attire of a Christian should be consistent with this profession. Principles of godliness throughout scripture like holiness, love for fellow man, influence in the world, and raising children in godliness should be carefully considered in the topic of modest attire.

If our loved ones who have passed away were here – with the knowledge they have attained in their experience of death, and what comes after – what might they say to us?

In 1 Timothy 2:9-10 Paul gives instruction concerning the need for modest attire. Why must Christians dress modestly? What is modest attire? Can we draw a line? How can we know that line?

In 1 Timothy 2:1-8, the apostle Paul gives instruction concerning prayer. Prayer is a vital part of the lives of God's children. It is also a powerful tool that should be used by God's will for those who don't have the privilege. Prayer should be offered in an acceptable fashion.

The one justified by faith in Christ is blessed immensely with the prospect of life eternal with God. This hope, unlike anything else, will surely not disappoint. Why? “Because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5). Paul goes on to discuss the expression of God’s love for us, a love which grants us an immeasurable confidence of hope.

1 Timothy 1 is considered in context, and application is made. What is the purpose of the commandment, sound doctrine, the glorious gospel?

How did sin once gain dominion in our lives? How did we escape? How do we remain free? Using Romans 6:12-14 these questions are considered.

1 Corinthians 3:5-17 is used to consider three things to keep in mind when we are seeking to spread the gospel.

God is not the author of confusion, rather, He is a God of order (cf. 1 Corinthians 14:33, 40). For this reason God demands order. Rebellion to His order will be met with punishment.

The apostle Paul warned the Corinthians about their persistence in sin. Then he reminded them of what had happened to them – “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11). God’s word is a treasure trove of blessings. Without the Holy Scriptures we can do nothing. Looking into Psalm 119, this sermon considers 7 blessings from God’s word.

Jesus said, “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad” (Matthew 12:30). When spiritual conflict arises we must pick a side. Any side chosen that is not the side of truth is against truth. There truly is no neutral position. Those who remain neutral will be condemned.

How should we approach the study of God’s word? What is the proper conduct? Using Nehemiah 8, this sermon considers some vital approaches to the study of God’s word.

“His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3). By His own glory and virtue, Jesus called us to be partakers of the divine nature. Christians are attracted to the magnificence of Jesus’ nature, and the transcendent character He possesses, and long to participate in such.

David, a man after God’s own heart, found himself at his lowest point when Nathan uttered the words, “You are the man” (2 Samuel 12:7-9). Psalm 51 is his penitent plea for God’s mercy and forgiveness. He asked for God to create a clean heart within him (cf. Psalm 51:10). How do we, in connection with God’s working, possess a clean heart?

Christians are those who walk by faith (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:7). This means that every decision they make is faith based. What does God desire? What does His word say? When we act, we are not to act on the various matters of life – temptation, persecution, doubt, etc. – rather, we are to act on faith.

In Luke 22:39-46 Jesus is recorded as withdrawing “a stone’s throw” from Peter, James and John to pray. His request was that they watched and prayed with Him. But although they were only a stone’s throw away, their minds were miles and miles away as they slumbered during Jesus’ greatest hour of trial. “And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). “Christian” is a divinely designated title. It is not a term to be used flippantly. Many claim to be Christians, but they do not meet the described conditions of scripture. Some are ashamed of the name, but don’t realize the blessing and privilege of wearing it. This sermon considers the name given by God to His children.

“Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set.” (Proverbs 22:28) Just as the Israelites had no right to move their neighbor’s landmarks to take more for themselves we have no right to move the spiritual landmarks God has set. He has established boundaries in the church, and in society that are to be respected. Those who move these landmarks will be cursed (cf. Deuteronomy 27:7).
