In Psalm 1:1, the blessed man is described in the negative, i.e. by what he does not do. This description showcases a progression of ungodliness. When ungodly counsel is heeded, it results in sin, and such can evolve into the basest forms of ungodliness such as blatant scorn for God. Sin is progressive, and we must beware.

Psalm 3 was written by David when Absalom his son usurped the thrown in Israel. It teaches us that, despite the trouble we may be facing from all around, God is a protective shield encompassing us. God protects His people, especially spiritually.

If we aren’t working as hard as our adversary is against us we can ensure defeat. If we are working harder than our adversary is we can ensure victory. Are you working harder than your opponent?

In reproof of the Pharisees’ unwillingness to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, Jesus used the men of Nineveh and the queen of the South as examples of opposite behavior which would judge and condemn them (cf. When the Syrians failed to defeat the Israelites in a battle the servants of Ben-Hadad suggested the failure was due to the location of the battle in the hills, and that the God of the Israelites could not ensure victory in the plain (cf. 1 Kings 20:23). God’s ways and thoughts are superior to that of man (cf. Isaiah 55:8-9). Man must never think that their ways somehow possess grandeur compared to God’s. Also, man must never fail to see the grandeur in God’s ways, causing him to neglect the things God has commanded us to do.

The only faith that will receive reward from God is that which endures and persists, showing itself to be genuine.

A trichotomy is a division into three categories. This sermon considers the subject of eternity in the categories of eternal existence, eternal life, and eternal death. What is eternal life? When the Jews demanded that Pilate release Barabbas instead of Jesus “Pilate said to them, ‘What then shall I do with . Jesus who is called Christ?'” (Matthew 27:22) This question posed by Pilate is one which all men must ask themselves. Pilate made his decision concerning Jesus, and will deal with the consequence of his decision for eternity. What shall I (you) do with Jesus?

Receiving compliments from others is always encouraging. Imagine receiving a compliment from Christ! Five such occasions are considered when Christ complimented another. If Christ complimented one for something they did it stands to reason that we would receive such approval from Him if we follow the example.

A “gospel meeting” is not to be approached passively by any member of the congregation. All have responsibilities they must fulfill for the meeting to be a success.

In 1 Timothy 6, Paul gave attention to false teachers whose motivation was money. He warned of the dangers that come with the love of money, and required godliness with contentment. Further instruction was given to the rich of the brethren. They were to trust in God rather than material wealth, and use their wealth to be active in good works.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). The following sermon is an examination of the attainment of a Christian’s hope by the spiritual birth.

“Some men’s sins are clearly evident, preceding them to judgment, but those of some men follow later. Likewise, the good works of some are clearly evident, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.” (1 Timothy 5:24-25)

In Matthew 18, Jesus answered a dispute among the disciples about greatness in the kingdom with the call to become as a little child. Jesus saw children as incredible examples for His followers to emulate. Among their characteristics discussed in Matthew 18 are humility and purity. This lesson considers four others in addition.

Paul warned Timothy of a coming apostasy in 1 Timothy 4. He then gave Timothy some personal instruction as a minister of the gospel concerning instructing the brethren of said error. The chapter stands as a blueprint for us to follow in arming ourselves against the danger of departing from the faith.

In Acts 3, Peter and John came across a man that was lame from birth laid at the gate called “Beautiful” asking for alms. Peter gave him more than he could have ever imagined, healing him completely. However, what Peter went on to do in preaching Jesus and offering the forgiveness of sins shows even more that what he had to offer exceeded silver and gold. Paul’s first epistle to Timothy was for him to know about proper conduct within the house of God. In conducting themselves accordingly, Christians in a local church act as the pillar and ground of the truth. They support the great mystery of godliness.

In Mark 3:31-35, Jesus manifested a spiritual perspective which we would do well to gain ourselves. His emphasis was on faith, He evaluated the spiritual fellowship above any physical connection, and He showed that His followers are blessed as a part of His family.
