Seaside Pod Review (A Queen Podcast)

Music EN ↓ 195 episodes

Kev and Randy take to the mics once a week to talk about a song from the catalogue of the enigmatic, brilliant, and sometimes flawed rock legends Queen. Each week a song will be chosen at random so that the boys won't know what track they'll be reviewing. Kev comes into the podcast as a Queen afficionado, while Randy is a more casual fan, but has a huge wealth of knowledge about recording, performing, and music in general. At the end of each episode, both will either upvote or downvote the song and we'll take to social media to see what the listeners think! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/priva...

A Night at the Opera (with Michael J Smith and Ian Winick) 09.07.2026

Michael and Ian are back! Yay! We brought back our pals from Eat the Pudding to talk about A Night at the Opera. We'll go through our rankings and countdown the eleven songs (not including the instrumental) from Queen's biggest hit according to you, the listeners. We discuss how badly you got your rankings wrong, there's some discussion of Roger's new album, and as always, things go off the rails...

Now I'm Here 02.07.2026

Randy is caught off guard by a post boner... we have to give a trigger warning to any spastic giraffes... Then there's a fair bit of chat about George Michael, Kiss, dead flies, Anderson .Paak, Kerry Ellis, and Otto Virtanen. Oh my... In the midst of all this, we manage to find our way to the last song on Side A of Queen's magnificent 1974 album, Sheer Heart Attack as we discuss a Brian May rocker...

Calling All Girls 25.06.2026

"If you like it listen to it. If you don't, fuck off!" Thus spake the Cardinal. And the congregation lifted up their hands to him and said "Oh wise and beneficent leader, what maketh you of the one who calls himself Rodgers?" And the Cardinal laid down his golden mace and leveled a steely gaze upon the multitude saying "He who hath fronted the Free, shall ne'er satisfy the Queendom. Speak to me no...

Gerry Rafferty - Right Down the Line 11.06.2026

GET THE GUERNICA!!! We need it to impregnated a stubborn goat and it's the only device we haven't yet tried! There's more talk about Cuban sax players than uou might expect and Jose from Guatemala is of no help. Is Gerry Rafferty the Scottish Eagles? We don't know. We were hoping you would. If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Right Down the Line", or possibly, "Sliced hard an...

Winston's English Pub 08.06.2026

Kev and Randy's World Tour of Saskatoon - Winston's English Pub Recorded July 2025 before Kev went international, before Gainsville! Our intrepid podcast duo head to a local establishment to ask the big questions, solve the big problems and generally make a mockery of any subject they discuss. Put it in your calendar, we're going for lunch! If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can mak...

Under Pressure 04.06.2026

Can't we give ourselves one more chance? Why can't we give love that one more chance? There are a great many reasons why this ideal seems unattainable, but if we all try to live by the message of this song, surely the world would be a richer, calmer, and more beautiful place! This week we move another step closer to wrapping up Hot Space by talking about the monumental closer, "Under Pressure". If...

One Vision 28.05.2026

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), is an American multinational fast food restaurant chain specializing in Southern fried chicken and chicken sandwiches. Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, it is the world's second-largest restaurant chain (as measured by sales) after McDonald's, with over 31,980 locations globally in 150 countries, as of September 2025. So why in the ever loving name of all that is...

Chilliwack - (Don't Wanna) Live for a Living 21.05.2026

Between 2020 - 2025, the city saw steady growth, adding approximately 11,700 residents over this period at a rate of 11.6%. Dear Friends 14.05.2026

We're talking Kinks, we're talking Van Halen, we're talking Lennon, we're talking Quiet Riot, T-Rex, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Oh and we spend a few minutes talking about Queen too! Bri had hepatitis, Freddie sang his song, and John kept Roger out of the way and out of trouble. He probably rolled the windows down in the pub and everything. What am I going on about? Who the fuck knows. But this week,...

Roxette - Joyride 07.05.2026

Joy Ride is a 2001 American psychological horror film directed by John Dahl and starring Steve Zahn, Paul Walker, and Leelee Sobieski. The screenplay by Clay Tarver and J. J. Abrams follows two brothers and their childhood acquaintance who are terrorized by a psychopathic killer after pranking him on their CB radio during a road trip. Joyride is a smash single by Swedish duo Roxette and it's the s...

Don't Lose Your Head 30.04.2026

In days of yore (aka medieval Britain), merchants would travel from hamlet to hamlet negotiating with the various Lords, through their Stewards and Bailiffs, in order to provide chain mail, iron braces and cladding for drawbridges, and reinforcements for battlements. Often, the merchant would barter for food, tools, or other supplies. The most famous of these merchants was named Joen (later change...

Leaving Home Ain't Easy 23.04.2026

Randy simply will not get over the title of this album. He just can't deal with the fact that an album called "Jazz" features no jazz. There's plenty of rock n roll, a wee bit of vaudeville, there's some proto-disco, and a spicy eastern flavour to the title track. But what are we getting from Bri today and will Randy love it or not? When Kev was young, Jazz was one of his favourite albums, but tha...

It's a Beautiful Day 16.04.2026

When is a song not a song? When is a dog not a dog? When is a hot dog not a hot dog? When is a Champion a Champion? And when is dust just a big old bunch of dead skin, fly legs, sand, grit, and fragments of belly button lint? I won't lie to you, only one of those questions is even remotely discussed on today's episode of Seaside Pod Review. That's the podcast you're about to listen to. If you clic...

Avril Lavigne - Unwanted 09.04.2026

We're listening to a Canadian pop star tonight. She likes baggy pants and baggy songs. She's into sk8ter bois and spelling other things completely incorrectly too. She hails from Belleville, Ontario and holds dual Canadian/French Citizenship. She sometimes plays guitar and was once married to a horse named Chad. If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Unwanted", or possibly, "Uno...

Crazy Little Thing Called Love 02.04.2026

Holy F*** It's a Music Podcaster! 26.03.2026

Back in May of 2020, Randy and Kev took their first baby steps into the podcasting world. They had no goddamn clue what they were doing and only one of them had a decent mic! We figured the best way to start a podcast would be to see if we were any good at interviews, or even speaking into microphones. Randy had to edit, Kev had to do artwork and no one listened... or watched. Because folks, we pu...

Play the Game 19.03.2026

There once was a man in Vancouver Whose appendage got stuck in the hoover He said, with a shout, "Get it out, get it out!!!" Before trying the Heimlich maneuver! Randy's away, Kev's home, and we're covering the opening track, "Play the Game", from 1980's triumphant masterpiece, The Game. Also, Obi Wan Kenobi? Weird! If Kev were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it “Play the Game”, or possi...

City Boy - Oddball Dance 12.03.2026

We're not gonna lie. You'll probably hate this song. It's far too sophisticated for the type of primitive Def Leppard loving classic classic rock fan we seem to mainly attract. You'll probably be waiting for a face-melting guitar solo followed by a lyric about a boobs. Well, Corey, you're gonna be disappointed mate because this is closer to Art Garfunky than it is to Monogene Simmons! If Kev were...

White Queen (As It Began) 05.03.2026

Duke of Aquitaine, Tierce de Picardie was an eighteenth century French nobleman who's primary economic interest was excavating gold from the deep reserves that lay under the fields of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in the pagus of Limousin. In his mid forties, he relinquished his titles and lands in order to conscript into the French army in order to fight for the crown against the revolutionary forces, a...

My Melancholy Blues 26.02.2026

Read about the things that happen throughout the world. Don't be believing in everything you see or hear. Read all about it, read all about it. News of the world, news of the world! Yep, we're heading back to the year nineteen hundred and seventy seven to talk about our last track and the last track from Queen's stupendously brilliant News of the World. The album is currently sitting at a one hund...

Liar 19.02.2026

"Trump's gotta be careful with all these lies, man. Let me tell you a story Dara, about a little boy named Pinocchio. He was a little wooden puppet who came to life because he was possessed by a demon. And he would go around and he would lie to everyone cos of the devil. And then all the villagers, they put him on a bonfire and they burned his soul to ash. And Trump should learn, you... never trus...

Otis Redding & Carla Thomas - Tramp 12.02.2026

Stax. Otis Redding. Carla Thomas. Booker T. Jones. Isaac Hayes. Steve Cropper. Donald Dunn. Al Jackson Jr. Wayne Jackson. 1967. King and Queen. Lowell Fulson. How much more soul can you be? The answer is "none"; "None more soul"! If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Tramp", or possibly, "Minks and rats and frogs and squirrels and rabbits, oh my!" The twenty second installment...

Seven Seas of Rhye 05.02.2026

Kev finds out that Nshima isn't the name of some peculiar rash that Randy picked up in Zambia, but rather, a corn meal porridge that Randy... picked up in Africa. Again, and again, and again. The Cardinal is back and he's here to regale us with tales of boom mics and bad burgers! And you know what, he didn't even get a tan! Ah well, the next time he flies across a couple of seas, maybe he'll cross...

Mad the Swine 29.01.2026

NOTE: This episode has been reuploaded to correct an editing mistake by so-called Captain International! It's the last B-side episode in our hattrick of pre-recorded shows while old R-Boat is over in Z-Boat! There were some technical difficulties during recording but hey, we're truly international, so we.... kinda sorted em out! Look, we don't have Off Menu money or whatever that one is with Will...

Love Kills (Ballad) 22.01.2026

Holy smokes and saints alive I never thought this would happen to me! What's that you ask? Oh, not much... I just happen to be lucky enough to co-host a podcast with the most international dude in the entire Northern hemisphere. Mr. "Jetset" Randy Woods himself is over in the cradle of humanity sharing his vast, VAST knowledge of sound, noises, ambience, acoustics, and such with a very wide array...
