In this sermon, we look at the famous account of David and Goliath. Though David is unimpressive to his fellow man, we see that he trusts in the power of God to deliver Israel from her enemies, and God is pleased to work a great victory through David his anointed!

In this sermon we take some time to look at the apparent contradiction in 1 Samuel 15 when we read that God regretted making Saul King but then Samuel clearly states that God is not like man in that he does not have regrets or changes His mind or lie.

In 1 Samuel 15 we look more closely at Saul’s response to God’s instruction. And while he partially did what he was told, we find that pride caused him to ultimately reject the Word of God!

How can a good and loving God sanction such an act at the hand of His people? We look at the context of Redemptive History, the Amalekites specially and then how this points us to the end of all things.

We come to 1 Samuel 14 were God raises up Jonathan to deliver Israel from a crushing defeat at the hand of Philistia. We see how Jonathan’s understanding of who God is compels him forward to action and dependence. As a result the nation is saved and people’s eye turned again to the Lord.

In 1 Samuel 13 we see things coming apart for Saul as soon as his role as king gets started. With threats all around and an ill equipped army, Saul decides to act contrary to God’s instruction to him through Samuel and as a result is warned that his throne will be removed! We too can learn from the pitfalls of Saul and see God’s goodness despite his failure.

In this sermon we return to 1 Samuel 12 and look at Samuels response to the people when they were convicted in their sin against God. We see that Samuel committed to his work of teaching and delivers God’s message to them and also a warning.

This past Sunday we were blessed to have pastor Cliff Kriz preach for us from Grace Community Reformed Baptist Church in Lethbridge, Alberta. In this sermon he opens up the institution of the Lord’s supper from Mark 14 for us and reminds us of Christ’s perfect work on the cross!

In this sermon we look at Samuel as the prophet of God. We see the foundation upon which he is standing and also the nature of his work as a prophet.

In this sermon we continue on into 1 Samuel 10 where we see Samuel privately anoint Saul and admonish him and give him three signs of confirmation, and then we also see the public coronation of Saul where his appointment as King is made known to all the tribes.
