In this sermon we look at some of the threats that were coming against the early church and then how Paul instructs Timothy to deal with these threats.

In our study of 1 Samuel we come to Saul’s final attempt to kill David and we see how God is shaping David to respond in a way that is honouring to the Lord. Though David doesn’t know the future, we see him continuing to trust in the Lord and to show mercy even when it is in his power to kill his enemy.

We see how seeing God as judge over all should effect the way that we live out our Christian faith.

In 1 Samuel 23 we see the hostility against David increase as Saul pursues him through forest and desert. However, despite the chaotic appearance of David’s experience, we see that God is still presiding over it all and we find the comforting truth of God’s providence.

Several of the Psalms state that they were written in light of specific events that unfolded in 1 Samuel, and so this week we look at Psalms 56 which was a response to David’s close call at Gath with the King Achish. We see an example of trusting in God, even when things seem to be against us.

In this sermon we first consider the unfolding story in 1 Samuel 21 where David flees for his life, and then we move over to Psalm 34 which was written after these events in David’s life and we consider his response to all that had happened.
