In this message we look at 1 Samuel 9 where God initiates the process for Israel’s first King to be established. Even through the ordinary events of life we see God providentially working and pointing a nation to the true King who is Christ the Lord.

In this message David teaches through 1 Samuel 8, where Israel demands a king, but not for the godly reasons that Moses described, but simply because they wanted to be like other nations and have someone fight for them and represent them. We see Samuel’s response to this as well as a strong warning to the people of Israel.

In this sermon, we see people react to the return of the Ark of God, and we also see the hearts of Israel begin to turn back to God through the leadership of Samuel who begins his ministry as the prophet of God!

Last week was a devastating time for the 12 tribes of Israel. Their priests were killed in battle, 44,000 soldiers lost, and even the ark of God was taken by the Philistines and put in the temple of Dagon. But the story does not end there, God single handedly brings the nation of Philistia to its knees and displays that He is the God of the nations!

We come now to the third chapter of 1 Samuel where we find the well known account of Samuel’s call. We find that though Samuel was busy around the tabernacle, he did not yet know God, but God mercifully comes to Samuel and reveals Himself to him, and brings Samuel His Word. And Samuel hears of the coming judgement upon Eli and his house and also is established as a prophet of God.

In this weeks sermon we see God’s response to the sins of Eli and his house. God is perfect in holiness and justice and though He is also patient and long-suffering, there comes a point when God desires to execute his justice upon unrepentant sinners. And yet, even in the midst of this sobering word against Eli, God also hold forth a promise of a coming priest who is faithful and carries out...

In this sermon we continue our study in 1 Samuel and we see the shocking contrast between Elkanah and his son Samuel and Eli the priest and his two sons Hophni and Phinehas. In Samuel God is graciously raising up a prophet after his own heart and one who will usher in the the King of God’s choosing, but the sins of Hophni and Phinehas are making them ripe for the coming judgement of God.

In this sermon we conclude our study of Hannah’s song. We see that Hannah praised God as she was confident he would establish His faithful ones, and also His anointed King. In this sermon we continue to look at Hannah’s Prayer and Song found in 1 Samuel chapter 2. It is an incredible Hymn and praise and adoration of God and also a prophetic and messianic word pointing us forward to Christ the anointed of God.

As Hannah bring her son to Shilo to be dedicated to the Lord, we see Hannah worship God as her Saviour and as the Matchless One who is her rock and solid foundation.

Last week we started by looking at this story of Hannah and her prayer and vow to God, in this sermon we see Hannah fulfill her vow to God in the bringing the young boy Samuel to the tabernacle at Shilo

This is the first sermon in our new series in 1st Samuel. We see that Israel is in a dark time, nearing the end of the Judges. And it is also a desperate time for a barren woman named Hannah. See how God begins to prepare a nation for reformation through the prayers of Hannah.
