Just as Shelby's long hard faught battle to turn Matt into AOC has been working incredibly well, Matt's deprogramming of Shelby as a Swiftie takes another step in the right direction. The Tortured Poets Department is out and mostly just torturing listeners. Shelby and Matt attempt to breakdown a 31-track album and discuss what is going on in Taylor Swift's head. 

We have another Alex Garland movie to argue about with his take on the American hellscape in Civil War. In the spirit of taking sides, Shelby roots for and Matt stands against and there’s probably no winner but they’ll be damned if they ever admit one of them is wrong. 

Shelby and Matt join the gaggle of hes, shes and theys giggling over Dev Patel. It’s an episode all about his directorial, leading--action-man debut Monkey Man that’s making the internet say John Wick who?

After far too many expeditions into Taylor Swift's discography, Matt has finally coerced Shelby into discussing a Beyonce album. The pair unpack Cowboy Carter in a way that only two white kids who haven't listened to country music in years can do. 

Shelby offends Italians, Catholics and conservatives while Matt breaks down just how political boobs can be. It's time to talk Immaculate and just how many religious tokens can be used to k*** a person. 

Matt has cancer, and as a result these episodes are getting more chaotic. Dune 2. Cowboy Carter. Madame Web. The Oscars. Dead Poet's Society of Tortured Artists. This episode has a little bit of everything, and yet not one important thing was said. 

Tradition time! Shelby and Matt ruin the rest of the year as they look back and rank every single movie they saw in 2023. From Shelby’s faves to Matt’s least, we have to DO MATH to figure out who’s taste reigns supreme and what our favorites are according to this combined monstrosity.

Live and in person Shelby and Matt break down the Super Bowl royalty, Usher's halftime show, Beyonce's genre pivot, and then Dakota Johnson's press tour and Drake's leaked nudes. For love it or hate it, Matt authentically recs Beyonce and Shelby full-heartedly shrugs at Nyad. 

Shelby and Matt unspool the plot twists in this weirdly anticipated, definitely panned spy comedy/thriller. Sam Rockwell vs Bryce Dallas Howard. Zany twists vs illogical leaps. Ugly dresses vs the worst haircuts you've ever seen. There's a lot to hate about this movie but doesn't that just mean there's more for us to love? 

The Grammys take the main stage with call outs and album announcements and celebrity snubs. Is Taylor headed to over saturation? Will the new poets society be a total snooze? Did Celine Dion deserve a hug? It’s a long roundup but we spare some time for Justin Timberlake slander (46:45) before diving into our love it or hate it (52:05).

It's the 250th episode! In honor of all the movies Shelby and Matt have sat through, they’re announcing their own Oscar (PSer?) nominations. Listen as they build out a ballot for best actor, best screenplay, best director, etc. etc. etc. from their own accursed archives. Since most of the things they’ve covered are bad, you know it’s bound to be good.

The Oscars have a certain demographic enraged (0:35). Bradley Cooper is officially Gigi Hadid’s new arm candy (21:20). SNL tries to make Justin Timberlake happen (23:45). For love it or hate it (28:35), Shelby rails against the machine in Netflix’s American Nightmare and Matt thinks everyone is talking about The Traitors.

Shelby and Matt keep their tradition alive with a SIXTH ANNUAL movie preview roundup where they take a guess at the movies they're looking forward to as well as the ones they're sure to hate. From superhero spinoffs to vampiric remakes, it's a lineup of the best--and worst--coming out in 2024. 

The Emmys happened (0:45). Renee Rapp is making millennials mad (8:45). Matt checks in on Taylor Swift (17:15). And Shelby plots her boycott of Stranger Things (25:05). For love it or hate it (28:40), Matt co-signs Godzilla Minus One and Shelby obsesses over Society of the Snow. 

Mean Girls the Musical the Movie is officially out and fans are saying it’s absolutely *not* fetch. Shelby and Matt walk through its various iterations as they try to decide what is and is not working for this zillennial rebranding.

Things go off the rails pretty quickly, but there’s conspiracies around the new movie Argylle (2:05), Selena Gomez making another questionable decision (16:45), Matt stanning Matt’s, Bradley Cooper’s directorial demands, and Ava Duvernay’s Oscar odds (25:40). For love it or hate it (32:10), Matt remains team Ariana and Shelby rants about awards darling The Holdovers.

Shelby and Matt break down their reactions to the newly returned Golden Globes. From a rough start to the wins and losses, they might have been a sleepy affair but there’s still lots to talk about.

Gypsy Rose has a new fanbase (3:25). Gaylor theories hit the mainstream (9:23). Real Housewives of SLC actually lives up the hype (16:30). Halle Bailey secretly became a mom (29:35). For love it or hate it (38:45), Shelby swings for The Iron Claw and Matt rejects Anyone but You.

Shelby and Matt ring out the year with one of the weirdest movies to ever get the star treatment, Wonka. With forgettable music and a puzzling critic score, they try to figure out if anything works in this prequel nobody asked for. 

Jonathan Majors is dropped (3:25). Too many people are down for a 9-month cruise (6:30). George Santos won't go away (15:00). And the Senate has a sex scandal (17:00). For love it or hate it (22:15), Shelby stumbles into fanfic and Matt hears out Nicki Minaj.

Shelby and Matt face their fears with Leave the World Behind — for him, facing nature; for her, a bad book adaptation. This divisive disaster flick might star Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali but it still leaves something to be desired.

Hugh Jackman might have a new lover (5:35). Taylor Swift is the person of the year (11:00). The Golden Globes finally found a new home (20:00). And we have a new he-who-shall-not-be-named (35:20). For love it or hate it (37:20) Matt praises Beyoncé's Renaissance and Shelby swoons for Godzilla Minus One. 

Matt finally admits he’s getting older with a special birthday episode looking at the careeer of notes peer and triple threat, Natalie Portman. She can act, she can dance, she can write a college thesis! She’s also been in a ton of movies that Matt loves and Shelby’s never seen so buckle up! As noted co-star Jar Jar Binks might say “ Dissen ganna be bery messy !” 

Shelby and Matt use the long holiday to talk about The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a book they didn’t like turned into a movie they can’t agree on.

Shelby and Matt are surprised by The Marvels—from the runtime, the humor, and all of the hate. With a new director, varied source material, and sexism still to combat, the audience is split on the latest MCU film but Shelby and Matt have a good time talking about it!
