We are continuing to look at Jesus's prayer to God the Father. In this section of the prayer, Jesus asks the Father to continue to love His disciples by keeping, protecting, and sanctifying them. John 17 begins the High Priestly Prayer that only Jesus can pray because, as he openly makes known to us in this text, He is God. A pattern develops in Luke 1-2 each time there is an appearance by an angel or angels. We see a proclamation of good news followed by worship. Jesus warns us in this passage that we will be hated by the world, because the world first hated Him. He also provides help and comfort to his followers by sending the Holy Spirit. We look at how we can still be on mission with the Holy Spirit, while being hated by the world.
