Episodes

Three questions as we approach the end of the lessons 13.10.2023

How good are you? What kind of podcaster do you want to be? How will you know?

Being found and finding your people 12.10.2023

There are places to go and people to find - your people. It is worth working out where they are.

Hosting for your podcast files 11.10.2023

We now need to put the files where they can be found - on a podcast-hosting platform.

Adding artwork to your podcast 10.10.2023

Adding artwork helps people find you the first time and to keep finding you afterwards. It is part of your branding - just not audio.

Creating a trailer for your podcast 09.10.2023

A short inviting clip that invites more listening - your trailer

Delete can be your friend 07.10.2023

Bonus - a long quote from Verlyn Klinkenborg and some reflections on deleting.

Your first episode 06.10.2023

We know how to do the bits - let's put them all together.

Adding Music to your podcast 05.10.2023

Have fun checking out the resources Music is often used at the beginning of a podcast episode, throughout the episode as transitions, and at the end. There are no rules, however, and we encourage you to incorporate music however you like. Feel free to get creative just be aware of the copyright issues. We've compiled several resources right here in one place where you'll find websites that provide...

Mixing and Mastering your audio 04.10.2023

Mixing and Mastering can be considered as the next phase of editing. It is where multiple audio files are combined, and levels and other factors adjusted to blend the multi-track into a whole. The final step, Mastering, creates a single-track audio file ready to be shared as a podcast.

Fixing the recorded audio 03.10.2023

The best solution is to record well - rather than try to fix it later. There are solutions but we don't want to try to be audio engineers. We will demonstrate some of the possible ways to fix the most common problems.

How we can approach editing 02.10.2023

Editing is for removing things that don't belong. There are two types of editing. Content and quality. And we use both our eyes and ears. There will be more detail in the lesson videos. We will learn what can stay because it adds to the message and what to remove because it is distracting.

Booking guests 29.09.2023

Time to get real! Today we are approaching people to be guests on our podcasts. What would you like to know if you were receiving an invitation email?

Recording an interview 28.09.2023

Know how you will start and finish. Decide whether to introduce the guest and whether to do it live or add it in later. Start recording before you begin the interview proper - it causes less tension in both you and the guest. Give them space to say thank you at the end too.

Interview questions 27.09.2023

Interviewing is a big topic and takes time to learn to do well. Another example of practice and more practice. Here are some thoughts to get you started.

Start small and invite guests you can get 26.09.2023

We start and build. Invite guests who will say yes. Build your experience and your credibility as you move towards those dream guests further down the line.

Recording and using a microphone 25.09.2023

There are things to be aware of when recording and using a microphone. We will cover this more as we go, but here is an overview.

Becoming someone's favorite 22.09.2023

How do you start your podcast in a way that people stay with you - both to the end of the episode and so that they keep coming back? Become their favourite. Give them something familiar. Give them something fresh. Be recognisable as you start. People then know they are in the right place.

Dancing with the fear 21.09.2023

Impostor syndrome is normal and means you are onto something. Learn to dance with the fear, and have fun as you create something of value that will be a gift to your listeners. Good now, better later.

Host on mic or interview 20.09.2023

You will decide which one to go with. In the workshop, we cover both and probably major more on doing an interview-style podcast. Even if you end up doing a host-on-mic podcast, practising interviews offers good learning.

Your podcast style 19.09.2023

No rules but yours! Listen to various podcasts and decide what you do and don't like. What kind of style is just you?

Capacity and Decision Making 18.09.2023

Making some decisions in advance can avoid decision-fatigue Recording a little more than your episode length makes editing quicker and with fewer decisions to make.

E5 Finding your voice 15.09.2023

We find our voice by using it. And that is today's exercise. Have fun.

E4 Knowing your audience 14.09.2023

Think like a listener. How do you listen to podcasts, and what do you respond to? Think like one of your listeners - who are they, and what are they like? Think of your listeners. What do they want?

E3 The change you are seeking to make 13.09.2023

Clear intention helps with clear content. Listen in to Seth and Alex discussing change and the origin story for the original workshop.

E2 Thinking about names and descriptions 12.09.2023

Keep it clear and simple. How do you respond to podcast names and descriptions in a listening app? What can that tell us about how potential listeners might interact with ours? Some reflections on the description from Alex DiPalma and Seth Godin.
