The Inspector Wears Skirts Retro Review 03.12.2025

Today on the 5: For one of our commentary movies this week, Lando randomly selected 1988's The Inspector Wears Skirts , a Hong Kong action comedy. I was pretty sure I'd enjoy it because Cynthia Rothrock is in it, but I'm happy to report that we both ended up having a great time with this movie!

Flesh For Frankenstein Retro Review 02.12.2025

Today on the 5: In memory of the magnificent actor Udo Kier , Lando selected 1973's Flesh For Frankenstein as one of our commentary films. The film is a well known trash classic, but the elements that created that notoriety were not enough to sustain the movie for me.

Late Night Double Feature: Lost Highway & Inland Empire 01.12.2025

Tonight I'm joined again by Doug Bielmeier , teaching professor, musician, and host of  The Process for another Late Night Double Feature! In this episode we're talking about a pair of David Lynch films, Lost Highway & Inland Empire . Two movies centered around identity and warped realities, this pairing offers both an introduction to Lynch and a head first plunge into the deep end of his way of t...

Rogue Amoeba Is Awesome 27.11.2025

Today on the 5: It's Thanksgiving in the United States, a holiday when being grateful is one of the core goals of the day. In that spirit, I decided to ditch the usual complaining about terrible tech companies in favor of highlighting one that I absolutely love: Rogue Amoeba .

The iPad Is NOT A Computer! 26.11.2025

Today on the 5: Every few months or so, we get another round of people complaining that the iPad is an overpowered piece of hardware and that Apple needs to unlock the true potential of the platform. Many of these same people have reported that Apple has no interest in either a "convertible" laptop or just adding a touchscreen to their portable computers. Doesn't that all point to a pretty clear c...

Vesper Review 25.11.2025

Today on the 5: After Lando and I watched a movie so terrible I'm not even going to talk about it, I decided I needed to get that experience out of my head as soon as possible. I turned to my very long list of movies to watch and rolled the dice on a 2022 film titled Vesper . In every respect it was the absolute correct decision!

Death Stranding 2 Review 24.11.2025

Today on the 5: After putting in around 200 hours with Death Stranding 2 , I finished the main campaign. I really loved the first game and I've enjoyed many oither Hideo Kojima games, so I was really surprised how mixed my opinion of this game is.

Oh Good, An Agentic OS 20.11.2025

Today on the 5: Microsoft has come up with a brilliant plan on how to make Windows better for everyone! The plan is to make Windows into an "agentic OS" , and that sounds like a great way to make me give up using the OS entirely.

The Potential Machine 19.11.2025

Today on the 5: Following a series of hardware announcements , a lot of folks have been getting excited about the Steam Machine coming from Valve. I not only agree with this excitement, but I'm wondering if people are underestimating how successful that computer could be.

The Succession Obsession 18.11.2025

Today on the 5: Apple CEO Tim Cook recently celebrated his 65th birthday, and like clockwork a bunch of "financial reports" started appearing about his possible retirement . Putting aside how much of this reporting was centered around pure speculation, the reality is that successful CEOs never really reach "retirement age".

Cinema Is Not Under Attack 17.11.2025

Today on the 5: Throughout the last week I've run across multiple new variations on the "cinema is threatened" complaint, which I've expressed my frustration over a few times before. I'm still bewildered by these self-proclaimed "champions of cinema" promoting a mindset that itself is most harmful to the future of that art form!

Croker's Dracula 14.11.2025

This week we're talking about  Wednesday , Drawing From Memory Game , Absolute Batman , Electric Dragon 80000v ,  Tetsuo: The Iron Man , and  Frankenstein . Show music by  HeartBeatHero  and  OGRE .  Support the show! Get up to 2 months free podcasting service with our Libsyn code  OZONE

Resurrecting James Bond 13.11.2025

Today on the 5: Having acquired the James Bond franchise, there are reports that Amazon Studios are struggling with how to continue the series following the death of Daniel Craig's take on the character . I'm baffled by this, because if these reports are true it assumes that James Bond being the same person throughout the series actually matters or makes any sense.

Electric Dragon 80000v Retro Review 12.11.2025

Today on the 5: Way WAY back in episode 35 I review the 2001 film Electric Dragon 80000v , but I had not revisited the movie since then and we selected it as one of our commentary films for the week. It ended up being a perfect pairing with Tetsuo: The Iron Man . It's an excellent example of how style over substance isn't always a bad thing!

Tetsuo: The Iron Man Retro Review 11.11.2025

Today on the 5: For our commentary films this week, Lando and I watched a pair of movies that feel like live action anime films. First up is a movie I couldn't believe I'd never reviewed for the show before, 1989's Tetsuo: The Iron Man . For the right viewer, this movie can feel like a belt sander to the brain in the best way.

Frankenstein (2025) Review 10.11.2025

Today on the 5: I've been looking forward to seeing Guillermo del Toro's  Frankenstein so much I decided to renew Netflix for a month just to watch it. Between the great reviews and Del Toro consistently delivering visually stellar films I knew I wouldn't be let down. Having seen it, I'm happy to report that not only is this a great Frankenstein movie, it just might be del Toro's masterpiece.

The Choice Is What Matters 06.11.2025

The Daily 5: Adobe MAX wrapped up exactly one week ago , and in between then and now a LOT of creators have unleashed their opinions about the company and their announcements. I'm generally pretty amused by the metric ton of bile some of these folks are firing at Adobe, but I'm also pretty clear on what Adobe would have to do to upset me enough to bail out on the company.

The Magic Of Adobe MAX 05.11.2025

Today on the 5: I was lucky enough to be able to attend Adobe MAX this year. As in the past, it provided a unique and powerful platform for creators to assemble and be celebrated for their work. I really wish Adobe would create smaller versions of MAX that were more accessible and affordable for more creators to experience.

The Long Walk Review 04.11.2025

Today on the 5: In the middle of a wonderful conference full of talented creators that I have always found a joyfully energeizing experience, I decided to watch 2025's The Long Walk . It's a very well made adaptation of one of Stephen King's bleaker stories, which resulted in an excellent movie I paradoxically wouldn't recommend to most people.

Robin Ogden AKA OGRE (2025) 03.11.2025

Tonight I'm joined by Robin Ogden, the musician known as OGRE . In this episode we're catching up after 5 years to talk about his new album Shards , why a pedal isn't always a pedal, and  Death Stranding 2 . Show music by OGRE .  Support the show!

The Ring Thing 31.10.2025

Well Played Adobe 30.10.2025

Today on the 5: I am lucky enough to be at Adobe MAX again this year, and as always the creative energy of this event is unmatched. One thing that only occurred to me this time around was how something I always thought was a negative aspect of the Sneaks segment of the show is actually magnificently clever marketing.
