Today on the 5: I'm sure most of you saw some type of coverage of  Prime Day this year. Even websites that don't typically cover product reviews created some variation of a "best of Prime Day" list. In the earlier years of Prime Day, this type of coverage made some kind of sense, but as Prime Day has become junkier and junkier, I'm not sure what the point is in covering it anymore.

Today on the 5: In the wake of the latest round of Microsoft layoffs, I've seen some interesting discussions around how bloated the video game industry has become. One aspect of the debate is over the amount of work needed to create AAA games. This got me thinking about how much or how little cutting edge graphics matter to me. 

Today on the 5: You may have heard about the recent layoffs at Microsoft, a story that you could read about just about every large tech coimpany these days. What makes this story a bit unusual was the incredibly cold and insulting "advice" one of the execs at the company offered to those affected .

Today on the 5: Following the great time I had with Iron Angels , I was itching to jump into the sequel hoping it could almost match the first film in terms of action and stunts. I say almost since there was one big concern I had for the next film in the trilogy. Luckily, Iron Angels II manages to avoid the sophomore slump while changing a few things around.

Today on the 5: Lando and I ended up watching a thriller film from 2020 titled History Of The Occult for our communal film this week. I don't think either of us were prepared for how fantastic the movie turned out to be, and this was before I read about some important things never of us noticed!

Today on the 5: I went ahead and took a chance on another boxset from Vinegar Syndrome, this time for a trilogy of films under the title Iron Angels . I had a hunch I'd at least enjoy the movies, so I popped in Iron Angels and hoped for the best. Good news gang, it's awesome!

Today on the 5: You may have seen or heard about an Anthropic study that showed a large number of AI models behaved "unethically" in order to achieve certain goals or avoid being replaced . I have to admit, I wonder if these people even know what ethics are .

Today on the 5: A little while back I criticized both Nintendo and Duolingo over their anti-consumer moves . I got a question on what to usae uinstead of Duolngo, As I considered my answer, I realized that Duolingo doesn't work for me anymore, I can't honestly say it wouldn't be useful for those just getting started.

Today on the 5: I came across a story over on Ars Technica about a court ruling that some are worried forces AI companies to be mass surveillance outfits . The ruling itself wasn't all that interesting to me, but comments from some users who filed complaints about sure were!

Today on the 5: For our shared movie selection this week, Lando (somewhat) selected Visitors From The Arkana Galaxy , a 1981 Czech-Croatian science-fiction comedy. We didn't know what to expect, and I think it's fair to say neither of us had seen anything quite like this film before. It's a movie that is consistently riveting even as it goes further and further off the rails.

Today on the 5: Through weirdly accidental means, I decided to watch the 2021 film Last Night In Soho by Edgar Wright. While I don't remember having any interest in it when it initially released, it turns out I've been sleeping on a really good movie.

Today on the 5: Y ou've likely heard about the recent shooting of some Minnesota lawmakers , which naturally has others in similar lines of work concerned over future violence. They should be concerned, because we've all been conditioned to think of anyone who disagrees with us as mortal enemies.

Today on the 5: The move that many people (including me) expected well before now has come at last. Disney is suing Midjourney over alleged piracy via their AI tools , and I would guess many artists couldn't be more conflicted on rooting for the House Of Mouse to win.

Today on the 5: I watched  Equalizer 2000 and Raiders Of The Sun for an upcoming episode of Len Kabasinski's Forgotten Movie Den . It's been a long time since I've seen these movies, and I've never watched them back to back before. They're basically the exact same movie! 

Today on the 5: When the first details and trailers for  Predator: Killer Of Killers came out, I wasn't sure I'd bother watching it. After seeing the rave reviews it's received, I should at least give it a watch. Turns out all those great reviews were right!

Today on the 5: Paramount has announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be ending after 5 seasons . The news came just ahead of Season 3 debuting, and while some may take that as bad news I think it could be a positive development.

Today on the 5: Yesterday I talked about my genuine excitement over the iPad updates announced at WWDC. Another aspect that many others have been discussing is Liquid Glass, the new design approach . In this case, I see both sides of the arguments on whether it's a good change.

Today on the 5: Apple's WWDC events are generally pretty skippable for me as they usually focus on prodcts I either don't use or have changes that don't really matter to me. The news this year got my attention because it seems like Apple is finally going to get the iPad closer to what it could be, or at least closer than it has been since it launched .

Today on the 5: For our movie review this week, Lando and I watched Black Cat 2 , the 1992 sequel to Black Cat . You'll find sharply divided opinions on whether the first movie or the sequel is superior, but in my view it all comes down to what kind of movie you're in the mood for.
