Health EN ↓ 79 episodes

"On healing" with Brandon Tilt, is my philosophical/academic exploration space where I share my lens as a counsellor, IFS-Coach and offer reflections around spirituality. I am not a teacher, an expert and don't claim expertise in my profession, but I have lived a very full and experience-laden life, beginning my healing journey in 2015, gradually learning from my studies of Psychology, Spirituality, Philosophy and my experiential wisdom from overcoming various addictions. More recently I've been understanding the world of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and applying this lens to healing myself....

Episodes

#78 On Decolonization and Embracing Cultural Diversity 11.06.2026

In this episode I get curious about an interesting conversation I had at a party with another white male, about what decolonizing means. It was an excellent dialogue, which caught me a bit off guard, but overall was a valuable space of checking in around what decolonization means to me. What it looks like, day by day, or how it even starts, I was proud to reflect from the perspective of a settler...

#77 On the "Total Cost" of Maintaining A Counselling Practice with Helen Ward 01.06.2026

In this episode I do my first podcast (aside from group panel podcasting) with my colleague and friend Helen Ward. This dialogue is a kind of “behind the scenes” conversation between two therapists where we share about the importance of self care, what goes into running an ethical practice , and the amount of extra time and money that we invest into our practices. Some of this is required by the p...

#76 On The Integration of Plant Teachers 31.05.2026

In this episode I revisit some of my previous reflections around integration of plant teachers, in particular drawing from my past few years of integrating my ceremonies with Grandmother, as well as other teachers. I draw from my personal experience developing my personal somatic attunement along with my perspective of healing trauma that surfaces in ceremony. It’s been a deep dive, which has left...

#75 On The Healing Journey with Jared Dunlop 23.04.2026

In this episode I chat with a good friend, Jared, a mixed Indigenous Chinese medicine student, Qi Gong practitioner, and firekeeper in sweat lodge ceremonies. Their path is grounded in healing and transformation, weaving together movement, traditional medicine, and earth-based ways of relating as they continue learning how to live in alignment with body, land, and spirit. Jared and I speak openly...

#74 On Rest, Chilling Out, and Being Present 23.04.2026

I originally felt like I should be talking about AI, or Poly, or something related to Psychology, and then I got into my hammock and just...relaxed. Sounds crazy, right? Well, here’s the thing... we all just need to chill out sometimes. If you aren’t interested in my spiel, that’s alright, I get it, it’s not a rant. But what this episode does reflect is my real-time realization that there is a lot...

#73 On War, Mental Health and IFS 03.04.2026

In this episode, I’m atop Eagle Mountain, at the Coquitlam Lake Viewpoint, reflecting on the topic of War. An increasingly relevant topic at this time in our history, but a sensitive topic nonetheless, as we all attempt to cope amongst the arising forces of war, geopolitics, and social media, which have a kind of omnipresence in our lives. I speak candidly and transparently to my own privilege, an...

#71 On Sitting with Discomfort 12.03.2026

In this episode, I’m sitting in the forest, watching the sunset slowly begin to set. I can hear birds around me, and I can smell the burning wood of a nearby fire. I notice the aeroplanes flying by, and my own experience of impatience. Offering an authentic reflection, this brief episode really helped me feel a lot more at ease on my healing journey. So I hope that you, too, can benefit from this...

#72 "Some Parts of us Hold on by a Thread"; IFS and Healing 12.03.2026

In this episode, I take a seat at “the bench” an iconic spot atop Burke Mountain and after an intense work out, take off my shirt, swig some water and enjoy a beautiful sunset. This episode feels deeply aligned with the core essence of this podcast, authentic reflections from the heart, sharing openly and vulernably and speaking to my healing journey, mining for gold. And it’s not all gold, maybe,...

#70 IFS and Healing Family Trauma 02.12.2025

Good day to you :). In this episode, I’m spending some time wandering around Burke Mountain and monologing about Internal Family Systems (IFS) and some recent shifts in my family wounding. I’ve been working with IFS for about 3 years, receiving some training last year that really refined my lens and I love to talk about my Parts and their inner journey. Additionally, these past 4-5 months, I’ve be...

#69 On Needs and Non-Violent Communication (NVC) 09.11.2025

In this episode I revisit the topic of Non-Violent Communication (NVC) a communication framework developed by Marshall Rosenberg that helps people connect their needs and express them to others. This method of expressing one’s feelings, needs and making requests has been pivotal to my own healing journey as well as a valuable tool for millions of others who desire connection and understand with th...

#68 On the Nature of Good and Evil 05.11.2025

- Questioning what it means to be a good/bad person - We all possess the capacity for evil - Are “good people” truly good? - Altruism and humanity - The Stanford Prison Experiment - Contextualizing evil on a continuum - Can we acknowledge personal “evil-doing”? Song in the intro- “Light of the Mountain” by Brandon Tilt Huy ch q’u (thank you) to those who support the indigenous communities and acti...

#67 Post Aya-Ceremony Reflections 05.11.2025

In this episode, I take some space by the ocean on a rainy afternoon near the Nanaimo ferry terminal to reflect on where I’m at with my healing journey. Fresh out of my 10th and 11th ayahuasca ceremonies (the first 9 were almost 2 years ago), the first time sitting with the medicine in over a year and a half, I didn’t really have a topic aside in mind. So these raw reflections were just a helpful...

#66 My Life and Neurodivergence (ADHD) 19.10.2025

After nearly 5 months of doing podcast episodes out in nature or with guests (outside of my studio space) I’ve returned to my crisp audio quality condenser mic to talk about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I’ve mentioned being neurodivergent in past episodes and most of my friends/colleagues probably know this about me, but this is the first time I’ve dedicated the space to reflec...

#65 "Instamacy" and Comedy/Performance 18.10.2025

In this episode, I spent about 25 minutes hanging out at one of my favourite spots by “Bunzten Lake”, watching the waves ripple and birds fly. Here I begin reflecting on “cheap intimacy” or this social-media-based delusional imaginary intimacy coined “Instamacy” and tying in some reflections about comedy performances, or the idea of laughter as medicine. I suppose it’s worth pointing out the subtl...

#64 Healing Family Wounds, Conflict and Anger 11.10.2025

In this episode, I’m sitting on a stump next to Buntzen Lake, and I begin this episode with a land acknowledgement, which I no longer include in the show notes (which I felt were empty acknowledgements) and will periodically do as part of my introduction, with some resources linked in the description. The topic for this episode is about healing family wounds, in my personal case, by trying to acti...

teve Chapman is a seasoned outdoor adventurer who has been climbing mountains for over 45 years, driven by a deep respect for nature and a passion for exploration. For the past 12 years, he has served as a dedicated volunteer with Coquitlam Search and Rescue, where his experience and leadership have been invaluable. Stephen also heads up the community education program, empowering others with the...

#62 Community Accountability and Collective Responsibility 20.08.2025

In this episode I reflect on community accountability, drawing from my personal accounts of having conversations around safety, accountability, ethics and what I personally define as "embodying integrity" (the definition varies for each person). I'm not proposing I have it all figured out, surely I don't. However, actively avoiding difficult conversations about people who are a risk to the public,...

#61 New Podcast name, Sundance, AI, Western "Superiority" 19.08.2025

In this episode, I announce my podcast's new name, "On Healing with Brandon Tilt", clarifying a clearer intention for how my podcast is developing. I spend time monologuing whilest hanging in my hammock atop Eagle Mountain, Kwikwetlam territory, along the ridge of a sacred mountain which neighbours the Kwiwetlam Nation's Watershed. It's been nearly a month since my last episode, which is a decent...

Having a 4th Degree Master's Rank in Taekwondo, international medals for various competitions, and a wide range of teaching experiences, his teaching abilit...

#59 Searching for Spiritual Community and My Fears of Change 20.07.2025

In this episode I began podcasting atop the viewpoint called "West Vancouver Viewpoint" also known as "Eagle Bluff", a gorgeous viewpoint at the top of Eagle Mountain. Here, I randomly dove into some of my raw unfiltered reflections about my recent "fork in the road" about leaving Canada. I feel called to live in South America, and I take this call to action very seriously. It's only a matter of t...

#58 My Journey of Life Coaching 05.07.2025

In this episode I reflect on my experience of learning to "Life Coach", first starting my coaching business while finishing my counselling practicum at Rhodes Wellness College in the Fall of 2023. I've since learned a lot about coaching others and applying Internal Family Systems with my clients and in my own personal healing and share some of my perspective I've gained through these past 2 1/2 ye...

#57 P*rnography Addiction and Somatic awareness 02.07.2025

In this mountain walk and talk, I'm walking up Burke Mountain towards Sawblade Falls, enjoying a beautiful sunny day and unpacking the topic of P*rngraphy addiction. I want to be clear, I am not an expert on healing sexual trauma and draw from my direct experience of healing my trauma and learning about mental health in school. You can go SO much deeper on this topic, but I simply scratch the surf...

#56 Existential Hammock Thoughts 25.06.2025

n this episode, I lie in my hammock near Buntzen Lake, listening to birds as they fly overhead, melting into my hammock and breathing very deeply into my belly. This monologue was an organic flow of existential thoughts and spiritual reflections about life, consciousness, and living a life connected to others. This is not a mental-health-based topic; I don't connect these concepts to scientific st...

#55 Discussing Conscious Relationships with Jess Cumming 18.06.2025

In this episode I bring back on my friend Jess Cumming and we have a riveting dialogue about conscious relationships drawing from a combination of personal experience, other podcasts or the occasional audio book reference. I want to be clear, my experience here isn't comparable to Jess's; she has been in the counselling field, as well as the conscious relationship world, for much longer than I. I...

#54 The Power of Acknowledgement 10.06.2025

Atop Burke mountain, after a nice 5 minute cold plunge in a waterfall I tap into my heart and offer this podcast episode as a way to acknowledge you as a listener and, additionally, offer you a chance to check in with your heart. In this episode, I intuitively flow into the topic of aknowledgement, gently pacing for the first bit and then sitting on the forest floor and connecting to the land. I r...
