Have you ever felt like your life was on a downward trajectory? Then Genesis chapter 34 has a message for you. No matter how many times we failed the Lord, we can go home again if we truly repent and obey!

Our society has a knack for labeling. We label everything, including people. If you’ve ever been labeled, then you know how hard it can be to shake it. However, when Jesus comes into your life he gives you a brand new label! Jacob, in Genesis chapter 32 reminds us that when we surrender to God our sins and old identity, then the Lord will make you brand new!

Turning points in life are big deals! It’s a moment of great awareness or a shift in momentum that point us in a new direction. We all have them in life. In Genesis 30 & 31, Jacob will experience a turning point in his life. An awareness that God is not done with him and a new attitude and direction is forged. Perhaps you are about to experience your own turning point.

Today we continue our series Origins and discover that Jacob fled from one unhappy home to find out he has created another. Years of drama, infighting, and jealousy fill their daily lives. Everyone is pursuing what they want with little regard towards what God wants. Genesis 29 & 30 is a good reminder that we need to put God first in everything!

“What goes around comes around” basically means that eventually you get what you deserve. Liars get lied to, thieves get robbed, and deceivers eventually get deceived themselves. All of this is true in our text today, but so is the reality that God has a plan and never gives up on anyone. Getting impatient with God is never a good thing. Abraham and Sarah will learn this first hand in Genesis 16 of just how devastating it can be when the “Cart gets before the horse!” From their shortsightedness, we learn a valuable truth today about waiting for God‘s perfect timing—and that is, God‘s timing is always better than ours.

Promises are a big deal! When God makes a promise, He keeps it! Believing what God says forms your faith and is foundational in you being found righteous in God‘s eyes. In Genesis chapter 15 God will remind Abraham of his great promise. On top of that, he promises to be Abraham’s protector and provider. Incredible promises for us today as well.

Nobody likes family drama! Not you, not anybody. We learn from Genesis 13 that not even some of our greatest biblical heroes could avoid family drama. Such is the case between Abraham and his nephew Lot. Abraham takes the lead and chooses to be a peacemaker. In doing so, provides us a wonderful example to follow today.

In Genesis chapter 12, God’s endgame starts to become clear. God would work through Abraham and his descendants to bring about the Jewish nation, the Bible, and ultimately the savior of the world, Jesus. God has always had a plan that involved redemption, blessing, and eternity with his creation. Through Abraham, all peoples on earth will be blessed.

Noah and his family came out of the Ark to a whole New World. However it did not take long for the same old problems to arise. Man’s free will was not destroyed in the flood and neither was sin. Noah would sin by getting drunk and his son Ham would sin by acting in such a disrespectful way to his father. Disobedience and rebellion would fill the earth as it was re-populated.
