The sovereignty of God is a reference to God‘s greatness and supremacy. It means that there is nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God’s influence and authority. This sovereignty is clearly seen in chapters 40 & 41 of Joseph’s story. His sovereignty is also clearly seen in our lives today. The Lord is intricately involved in our lives and that is good news.

Every story has a hero. The book of Genesis is no different. Joseph is that hero, but he doesn’t look the part when we first meet him. The hero of any story is rarely the one who flees. However, that is exactly what Joseph does in our text today and in doing so makes it obvious that God is with him.
