The 1980s, 2-stroke terrors of So Cal's Inland Empire ride again. This week a few old scooter buddies join me in celebrating all of our shelter in place orders. From our old days riding around southern California as the way too pretentious Innocents 21+ ESC, to our graying geezerhood, we pulled together a few tracks each for this thematic show. So with almost no time to prepare our old friend and sometime guest host, DJ Ken, partnered up with me to throw together a show on the fly, slapdash style. We spun up the relevant music machines and came up with a nice mix of tunes. Hopefully, we can rebuild...

It's time for my annual look back of some of the songs that I really liked last year. Are these the best of 2019? To be sure they should be included in any best of round-up, but there were lots of great artists who produced a lot of great music last year. These then are the tracks that really jumped out at me, that got lodged in my head and my playlists. Enjoy this quick listen back as you begin l...

Everyone knows that jazz and soul played a big part in the early mod scene, and so of course did the blues. Mostly white British youth became enamored of delta blues belted out by black American musicians in the mid to late '50s. The sounds of Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Slim Harpo, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, and Sonny Boy Williamson swamped London music clubs. A f...

In 1980 musical currents were steeped in punk, post-punk, power pop, and new wave. The Specials were riding high off the success of their debut album, and founder Jerry Dammers pushed the band to immediately record a follow-up, More Specials. But rather than continue the DIY punked up ska and reggae they had mastered on their first LP Dammers pushed for doing something entirely different, somethin...

I've been pressed to impress myself of late. Got me a new suit, some new ties and have been upping the game with a bit more effort to step out with style. But, the music is still the same. So, here we go again with a great set of new music, along with a few older gems to round out the mix. This week's modcast sort of came together by accident, as some of my best shows do. It didn't start out that way, but eventually as I was working on things the theme presented itself and I thought it would work pretty well. As you listen I'm sure it won't be hard for you to nail down what the theme is. No matter the theme it's a nice mix of funky, soulful, acid jazz goodness. As always find a comp...
