I made a promise to myself when I started this podcast.   I promised myself that I'd be totally transparent and share what I was thinking.  This might rub some people the wrong way.  Status does not create success.

I'd like to answer a question I got the other day.   To be honest, it's hard for me to pick just one.  I've studied entrepreneurs and people for years so let me share with you what I think of when I think mentors.

What do your team members actually hear when you talk about your vision? There are far too many people and books that tell you that if you have a vision that your team will figure it out.  Are you hiding from your team?      

There is a challenge around a lot of the material surrounding retaining the right team members.  Beer kegs, air hockey and free food are an ineffective way to persuade people that their work is fun.  There is a better way.  

If you run two businesses under 1 million dollars, you are going to struggle.

If you're driven enough as an entrepreneur, eventually the momentum you can create becomes no longer enough.

Human beings want to win.  When ever an entrepreneur complains about their team, they are declaring publicly and loudly that they aren't a good leader.   

In business today, there are far too many consultants and coaches that won't tell you when you're heading off a cliff.  They won't tell you your baby is ugly.  If you're trying to sell something or attract clients that aren't coming, you need someone who will give you the truth and nothing else. 

There is an epidemic in the coaching world where people promise results that they haven't achieved themselves.  The term 'Mastermind' typically refers to a group set up by a leader.   There are a lot of places where it is essentially the blind leading the blind.  Just because someone doesn't know an answer doesn't mean they won't give you one. 

Culture and performance is always a reflection of leadership.  You can't expect your team to be available at any time every time.   When you set that expectation you also set the expectation of interruption.   When you start to manage this way, you start to create the habit.  If you're growing a business where everyone is available all of the time, you're scaling a broken system.  Defend against b...

When you get to a point when you're solving someones problem, people invest.   There are so many entrepreneurs that focus on the their product, but not the problem their product solves.  If you're having trouble growing, ask yourself.. Who's problem are you solving?  Solving problems is what gets people to buy from you and is what creates loyalty.

As an entrepreneur, you're one of the most important people in each of your team members lives.  Being taken advantage of is one of our biggest fears.  When an entrepreneur first starts to get time off requests, it can be confronting.  Let me explain to you why the counter intuitive idea of being gracious here benefits everyone involved.
