My wife created a book “Message from the Mountain 2025” and gave it to me for my birthday. It is filled with all the pictures and messages that were in my podcasts for the year. SURROUNDED BY LOVE. I set my intentions to be a channel for the Cosmos’s unconditional love, and when I see signs such as a heart in the snow, in my mind I know that I am surrounded by the love I that intend to channel. We get a lot of pleasure during the winter watching the birds that come to the feeders for sunflower seeds and suet. In the meantime, the birds are getting important nourishment to help them get through the season. It is a tradeoff. I am always looking for signs that indicate possibilities. When I imagined a polar bear in a bank of snow across the road, I imagined winter is not done with us yet. The polar bear looked real to me until the sun shifted, and it vanished. I check the weather forecast each day, the first thing in the morning, to see what time the sun sets. I have been doing this for years, going back to when my wife could drive home from work at five without using her lights. The time has moved slowly this cold January. We have a five-foot stone grinding wheel with a hole in the middle balancing on a stone wall in front of our home. The snow creates the image of a large bagel or doughnut waiting for some jelly. I chuckled when I noticed that a couple of benches behind our garage were all filled with snow. There was no room to sit. It reminded me that often our minds are so filled with thoughts that there is no opportunity to pause and rest and communicate with our source. With a couple of feet of new snow, the best approach for me is to take my time making a path to the car. When I was younger, I would just dive into things without thinking ahead. FINDING COMFORT. I like to be comfortable, and I wear an extra layer or two when the weather is freezing outside. I also like comfort food, but now have some food allergies, so my choices are limited. It seems as though people spend a good part of their lives waiting for big ones, both positive and negative. Several times a day I find myself with a smile on my face caused by something that crossed my mind. It could be from the past, the present, or a thought of someone else. When we first arrived in the valley, we used to drive a road that gave us a breathtaking view of the majestic mountains to the west. We built our home where we had that view. Now, sixty years later, the majestic mountains are still there, even though the valley has changed considerably. With the recent cold weather our thoughts focused on the memory of the joy of eating fresh baked bread. I used to make it before I became allergic to gluten. Now that there is gluten free flour, it was time to try again. The results were not the same. We find many things different from what we remember. We have changed. At just the right time, when the sun is coming up, it creates an alpine glow that can spotlight a single mountain. Sometimes people who are not used to being in the spotlight are noticed by others for something either positive or negative. The new coating of white snow has freshened up the landscape. It reminds me of a term called “whitewashing”, when white paint is used to cover up surface flaws to create a fresh clean feeling.
