Message from the Mountain

One of the apple trees in the orchard is surrounded by a blanket of wild asters that bloom this time of year. I always enjoy how nature creates different unique designs and patterns. Each person is a unique design of the Cosmos. When others benefit, so does the individual. Support the show

Last fall one of our birdhouses in the Lupine Field fell over and broke. Our son built and installed a new one and it has a bluebird tenant. Perhaps bird houses can somehow remind and inspire people to help find housing for humans that need a home too. Support the show

Recently I was given permission by my physical therapist to attempt the hike from the Orchard to the Lupine Field, something I had really looked forward to doing. So, with two hiking poles I made it over and back. We all have big and little goals in life to accomplish. Support the show

About seventeen years ago. I became aware that the energy on the mountain was an inspiration for messages from nature. I still rely on that channel to provide the positive words that flow through me relating nature to life.   Support the show

The lupines have begun to bloom in the field at the top of the mountain. It won’t be long now until these beautiful flowers will create a landscape with the White Mountains as the backdrop that is worthy of painting. In fact we have two paintings from there that give us joy all year long. Support the show

June is considered to be the prime month for weddings, and our old-fashioned bridal wreath is in full bloom. Our lives are filled with traditions all year long, and Nature has a big part in providing positive seasonal contributions.   Support the show

The wild strawberry's tiny white blossoms have taken over parts of the fields around the cabin and in the Orchard. There is nothing like the taste of a wild strawberry, but it takes patience to pick enough for a shortcake. Perhaps a little more patience in life creates more sweetness. Support the show

As we turned onto the old dirt road leading to the Orchard, we encountered a beautiful female deer standing in the middle of it. It paused as it entered the woods and I spoke a few words to it and snapped a photo. I believe that we were receiving a sign from the Other Side. Support the show

The flowers have been spectacular so far this year, and now the Iris are the center of my attention. I am constantly amazed at the intricate designs Nature creates, and that includes the design that goes into each one of our souls’ purpose.   Support the show

It is Memorial Day in America, a day to pause and give thanks to all the veterans who have served and to those that gave their lives to protect our freedom. I have fond memories of marching in a parade to the cemetery where I placed a flag on my great uncle’s grave. Support the show

There is a movement of homeowners who have lawns that they do not mow them until June. We honor that this year as I am not ready to ride the lawnmower yet. Sometimes we overwork our thoughts or creations to the point where the original concept has been lost. Support the show

Over the winter the old birch at the edge of what-used-to-be-an-old-garden fell over, and it will still be another month before I can move it with the tractor due to my hip surgery, so my wife decided to pull it out of the way with our side-by-side. Flexible thinking can be resourceful. Support the show

The lady slippers are dancing in the wind on the mountainside. We love to search for these delicate blooms when they are on display. It is also the time of year when people are beginning to take action on their winter dreams as the dance of life continues. Support the show

This is an excellent time of the year to establish a habit of pausing for a moment and taking in Nature's spectacular show, whether it is the smells, the colors, the sounds, or tastes. Being grateful while you pause helps you set your intentions for the day. Support the show

I recently watched a spring ritual play out on our front lawn. A male turkey was strutting his stuff the best he could with several tail feathers missing, try to attract a single female. I wonder if they were misfits in the world of turkeys. I was reminded of people that find their way together. Support the show

The ferns that grow in the orchard are ready to unfurl their leaves, creating a sea of green. Many people harvest the fiddleheads before they open to enjoy one of Nature’s delicacies. There are people that, like the ferns, are ready to unfurl their gifts for others to benefit. Support the show

Humans are not the only ones currently looking for places to live. Much of nature is doing the same thing. We recently discovered a mud bird house built on the side of our non-workable outhouse by the Cabin. I guess the lesson is to choose wisely where you live. Support the show

Since the beginning, man has constantly tried to create tools that would be more efficient and make life easier. Recently, I was supplied with a “grabber” after my hip operation. We have an old wooden one, and one day I had to use it to pick up the new one. Support the show

I have spent a lot of time in my life waiting for something to happen, only to find that when it does, it can be sudden and without a big flash of excitement. This happened recently when I suddenly realized the leaves that I had been waiting for each day had appeared. Miracles are that way. Support the show

It all began when we first bought the Center property and found old flower gardens. I saved as much as I could, and then Martha Douglass added to them. Now it is Derek who continues to develop the Garden of my dreams. We all have dreams that can develop over time. Support the show

The lilacs are in full bloom. It is one of my favorite times of the year. Just the smell of lilacs takes me on a journey in my mind to Memorial Day parades when my father joined other veterans who squeezed into their uniforms to march to the lake to decorate the graves of the fallen. Here in the foothills our senses are alive, especially this time of year. If you have allergies, it may not be a pleasant time, but if smell is important to you, it is like living in a bouquet. There is always something positive to discover in Nature. Support the show

After a long spring of waiting for the weather to be dry enough so we could drive to the orchard, I am now able to return to the peace and quiet where the remaining trees are now almost in full bloom. Nature has many places where our hearts can escape. Support the show

SEEING BLUE MAKES ME HAPPY – For many people, seeing blue is related to feeling sad. I am thinking of the blue ground phlox that spread their cheeriness on the landscape this time of year. Actually, not everyone interprets color the same. The same is true of all in life. Support the show

This time of year I look forward to being reminded of when we transplanted some beautiful blue forget-me-nots that have flourished and spread over time. Just another reminder that when we plant things in the soil, they often continue to spread joy to others year after year. Support the show
