I have been waiting for a bunch of daffodils to open for what seems like a month. They have been taking their time, and, with the cold weather I can’t say I blame them. Most of our mayflowers have white blossoms, but certain soil conditions produce pink blooms that are my favorites. It is interesting to me to see what people like or dislike, especially relating to colors. For color sensitive people, clothes with certain colors can either brighten up a day or darken it. I looked out the window and saw a big turkey staring back. I think it was sending a message that he wanted to be fed. I smiled and knew there was plenty of nature’s food waiting for him to find. I have enjoyed watching the pussy willows development this spring from their earliest buds to fuzzy blooms to maturing seeds, and next will be green leaves. Each stage is beautiful. I also enjoy seeing the beauty in people as they mature during the stages of their lives. My eyes caught a splash of bright yellow when I looked out the window at my wife’s little flower garden. It was miniature daffodils, only a couple of inches tall, in full bloom. My heart warmed with gratitude, and I thought of people who are bright spots of positivity, no matter where their day brings them. As I look out the window, I can see a clue as to what was happening here two hundred years ago: the remains of an old pond that held water to run a bark grinding mill for tanning leather. I carefully moved into the lupine field trying not to step on any plants and I found the first tiny lupines sprouted. My heart sang with gratitude, and my goal is to enjoy their growth as they carpet the clearing with their beautiful blooms in June. I watched a Morning Cloak butterfly land on a sun warmed spot of leaves on a cool spring day. It seemed to be taking a moment to reenergize itself before its next flight. I have a warm spot in my heart where I collect things that I am grateful which helps sustain the next flight of my soul. When I found a tiny pebble on the carpet that probably came from the bottom of my shoe, I was reminded that love comes in many sizes. It was in the shape of a heart; I compared it to a large heart-shaped boulder. I am fascinated by the shapes of the trees in the woods. Some grow straight and tall while others have all types of bends and crooks. They are shaped by their environment. Together they make up the landscape of the forest. The landscape of life is also made up of people with different types of bodies. Some are straight and tall while others have physical limitations. The finches, both yellow and red, are halfway to their full colors for mating season. I love to see them flitting back and forth to the birdfeeders. People can be affected by the color of clothes they wear. The lilacs now have some tiny green buds on their branches, and I will be watching them closely until they bloom in about a month. As I do not reproduce their smell in my mind, I will spend some time with them when they open. The tapping season for the red maples on our front lawn is now over because its flowers are beginning to open. The building known as the Hypnosis Center was built in the mid-1950s for a retirement home. We are the third owners, and recently, while cleaning out a closet, my wife found a fabric-covered rock way in the back. I spotted a small beechnut on the ground of a trail recently, still in its outer wrapping. I thought of the big beech trees that bears used to climb in the fall for nourishment, and recently I learned on the news that beech trees can be tapped in the spring like maple trees.
