Message from the Mountain

I believe the foxglove is a very intelligent flower. It chooses where it wants to raise its litter on our land, maybe in a remote corner of the parking lot.  I think of intelligent people who quietly go about spreading their seeds of positivity in the fertile minds of people. Support the show

The lavender plants are in full bloom. They are a favorite for many people with their fragrant smell and many uses. People are clumps of talents that can benefit others when they take the time to share. Support the show

The daisies are in bloom, and this old-fashioned flower was used in a game of love, love me not, when removing the petals. The last petal held the answer. When offering love, it is the other person who pulls the petals to decide. Support the show

I remember when I was much younger, I used to play a card game called Hearts. Today I am on a quest to discover heart symbols that I connect with gratitude to my heart as a reminder of love that I set my intentions to channel from the infinite wisdom of the Cosmos. Support the show

There is a wildflower with a tall leafless stalk that seems to just appear on unmowed lawns and fields in June. The flower books identify it as “yellow hawkweed”. From a distance it looks like buttercups. There are people who stand tall for positivity and often appear when it is needed. Support the show

The first year the lupine bloomed I counted 12 plants. Now at their prime, there are several hundred blooms as they continue to spread each year. Positive actions, when one’s intentions are at their best, can spread among others just like the lupine. Support the show

A variegated hosta has more beauty in its leaves than in its flowers. In fact, the leaves look like a giant flower by themselves. We often see surface beauty in a person but can miss their inner beauty unless we look for it. Support the show

The first daylilies of the season are now shining in the sun. They signal a parade of colors that will last the whole summer, each bloom a reason to be grateful. That gratitude can then be shared with friends and strangers. Support the show

Recently we had two Sri Lankan monks visit the Center spreading peace and love throughout the country. I took them to see the Lupines, and they did an impromptu blessing of the Mountain. That blessing is now shared with all who visit. Support the show

My eyes caught a small splash of red, and upon investigating more closely I saw a wild columbine in bloom, the first of the season.  I paused for a moment, taking in this small flower that could easily be overlooked, and thought of the many such pleasures that can change one’s life. Yellow flags are now flowering in the little frog pond while the blue flags are blooming close by. Summer weather is upon us, and it is a great time to pause for a moment and be grateful for Nature’s gifts to us. That moment can make a big difference in our day as well as those that cross our paths. Support the show

Years ago my wife’s father made her mother a three-legged bench to hold some of her potted plants. It eventually was handed through the family until I squared it off and my son added a fourth leg. Now it is ready for the future. It is good to update our lives with old positive values.   Support the show

For nearly two hundred years, artists have been coming to the mountains to interpret Nature and take their renderings back TO show others. Each artist creates a little differently. In life there is an art to blending other interpretations with their own. Support the show

Our bridal wreath is in bloom. I transplanted it over fifty years ago from my parents’ home where it had originally been brought from my great aunt’s. “Thrifting” is popular now. Support the show

Several years ago my sister gave me some pink lilies-of-the-valley that have the same fragrant flowers as the white variety. Nature provides so many different varieties for us to observe and enjoy, just as all aspects of life do when we choose to examine different views. Support the show

The moment is here, and the show is beginning to start. We have been anticipating it since I cut the Lupine Field last fall. They are now beginning to bloom. If we don’t pause and appreciate, we could miss the show. The current moments are so important in life. Support the show

The giant iris are standing tall in the flower garden. Often, I will stake them up to keep them from toppling in the wind. With my assistance they continue to remain upright while they flower. People that stand tall can also be toppled by themselves or others unless they are propped up by their faith. Support the show

We have a shrub at the Center, whose name I have forgotten, that has grown over years and produces beautiful round ball-shaped flowers with a fragrant smell. I am reminded of the beautiful souls on earth that I may see once or often that have remained nameless to me. Support the show

Some time ago I planted some lilies of the valley in front of the house, and they have invaded the landscape. It is an invasion we cherish. I am reminded that when we do small positive acts of kindness, they have the potential of spreading through receptive souls. Support the show

 I have a lot of early memories of my father coming home from the service and Memorial Day parades when he and my sister and I marched to the cemetery, along with others, to decorate the graves of veterans. I hope we honor those who have served for years to come. Support the show

The rhododendrons have started to bloom as we continue our spring journey of finding flowering shrubs all season. My intention is to share my gratitude for Nature’s beauty in positive actions every day   Support the show

I recently attended a beauty contest sponsored by Nature. There were 25 lady slippers vying for the most beautiful. I couldn’t choose a winner. Then again, in life I don’t necessarily judge beauty by outward appearance. I know a lot of beautiful souls, like you, that are all winners. Support the show

The small crabapple tree in our yard is loaded with blossoms, standing out and capturing our attention over the other apple trees. Its fruit, however, is very tiny and only consumed by the birds. Support the show

Over the years I have noticed that when we work the soil, old plants start to grow again. This was the case when the ground behind the Center was reworked. In life, it is possible to rediscover elements that have been long forgotten. Support the show

Several years ago we planted some colorful ground phlox over a large rock beside our drive. The plants have spread and are eye catching this time of year. There are many ways to add color to one’s life, especially when it involves spreading love, joy, gratitude and positive acts. Support the show
