He is a master of creating a beautiful flow of energy throughout the landscape and he does most of it using just hand tools. Some people are “hands on” and some are “hands off”. The hens and chickens have continued to spread out at the top of a retaining wall at the Center, the big ones sending out tentacles spawning new growth. Positive people shine their light of love which may change lives which in in turn brings more to a movement that just may change the world. We discovered recently that the fairy population on the Mountain is expanding as there is now a second residence established on the old stump close by to the first. I was reminded of summers of my youth as I enjoyed a recent sunset; all I had to do was play in the water or ballfield. The world of today is a lot more complicated, but it is the world we live in. The Echinacea/coneflower was doing its job by supplying nectar for the yellow patterned butterfly who in turn was pollinating the flower, and both gave Ormond Garden visitors a feeling of gratitude. One of the transplants in the Ormond Gardens has grown quite tall, so I anticipated large flowers. However, the Lucifer plant has small flowers. Sometimes, after wet overnight dew, we see spiderwebs in the grass. Spiderwebs of all types are interesting designs. Air can flow through them and yet they are strong enough to capture the intended prey. People use webbing for its flexible strength. Sometimes positive things happen in life without us knowing exactly how. A few years ago, I noticed a tall blue flower growing in the Lupine Field. I’m not sure how the seeds first got there, but I am grateful, and so are the butterflies. There is a weed-type plant in one location at the Center covered with tiny pinkish white flowers attracting butterflies and other insects. I suspect that by its name, “spreading dogbane”; it is now found in many flower gardens. There are several different daisy types of flowers in the Ormond Gardens, including one that has a center the same color as the petals. We often tend to put people into certain categories that dismiss their individual uniqueness. The lavender plants are now blooming. Their smell is a favorite of many people, and when I ask if someone can imagine the smell when they take a deep breath, I watch them become more relaxed. I am always on the lookout for more and different flowers that can be transplanted to the Ormond Gardens to round out the color during the season. Every once in a while, my eyes will catch a bright flash of glitter as I walk the trails on the mountain. It is mica, a thin component of some of the rocks on the land. It is the basis of isinglass, used in the windows of wood and early gas stoves. The blackberry bush was laden down with green berries, promising a sweet harvest in a few weeks. It is possible that birds may get to them first. The other day we saw two flashes of red amongst the foliage in the Lupine Field. Upon closer investigation we found wild wood lilies, a rarity here on the mountainside. My mind turned to the joy of finding a talent someone might try to hide because they thought it was nothing special. When I was greeted by an orange glory flower in the Ormond Gardens, I could not help smiling and told myself it was a glorious day. Some of the transplants in the Ormond Gardens came with more than one variety in a single scoop. One of them looks like a daisy with a different center. The brown eyed susans are keeping watch in the Ormond Gardens, greeting all that pass by. I believe that we are all watched over by something that helps us navigate through life. Several years ago we transplanted some hydrangeas from the Historical Society to the Center. I do not know their history before being planted there. On this Independence Day in this country, I am grateful for the freedom to take a walk in Nature and sit on the bench at the top of the Lupine Field and reflect on the many things for which I am grateful, including the opportunity to share this special place with others. I spent quite a bit of time trying to identify the subject flower of today’s podcast and wasn’t successful. Someone will tell me. People often do not realize the talents they have. The thick leaves on a succulent plant collected little pearls of moisture from the recent rain. I was reminded that every day there are little pearls of wisdom waiting for us to harvest to nourish our Soul.
