The reason we worry about a patient's airway is because after catastrophic haemorrhage, that is the thing that can k*ll your patient the quickest. If u r dealing with a conscious patient, they probably will tell you that they are able to breathe well.

Catastrophic haemorrhage means a lot of bleeding within a short span of time, an amount of bleeding that has to be stopped or at least stemmed before even the basic assessment and treatment of the patient can be done.
