If we aren’t intentional about how we follow Jesus, our internal struggles can hold us back. When we’re called into scary situations, we can have confidence that God is with us—and faith to begin following him again like it’s the first time.

We all have scars. But the most painful scars we hold are the ones that no one sees. Following Jesus through our pain means understanding that our pain may not be relieved—but it will be redeemed. And when we own and offer it to God, he can use it for purposes greater than we can imagine.

It’s easy to say we want to change…but where is the line between waiting for change and working for it? If we’re in Christ, grace has covered it all. But if we’re making destructive choices, we’re forfeiting the life God intended for us. In order to find true transformation through Jesus, we have to meet him at the intersection of God’s grace and our grit.

We know that being a Christian means more than just believing in Jesus. But what happens when our passion for our faith burns out? The life that Jesus invites us into cannot be experienced if we keep him on a shelf—and when we realize that following him is the difference between easy and best, we can accept his invitation and begin living the way he meant for us to live.

There are two additional voices that speak into the crucial conversations we have with ourselves—so how do we know when God is really speaking to us…and when he’s not? When we’re listening for God’s nudges, we can be sure it’s his voice when we put it to the test. And when we make God a part of all of our crucial conversations, we can respond to his voice in every decision we make.

The conversations we have with ourselves are often the most important ones. So why do we end up making the worst decisions when the stakes are the highest? If we commit to telling ourselves the whole story—without omitting the facts—we can commit to living the best life God has to offer us.

We were all made with a unique purpose—and a unique shape. Our spiritual gifts, heart, natural abilities, personality, and experiences all make up how we’re shaped to serve. God gave us everything we need to fight for others in the way we’re designed, and when we discover our shape, we can begin use who we are to fulfill our purpose and make our contribution.

We each have an individual purpose, but our greater purpose as followers of Christ is to share our story of life change with the world. When we realize that our journey is not an accident, we can begin to understand that the loudest story we will ever tell is the way we live—and the greatest tool God has given us is our ability to share it.

We have the tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be—including following Jesus. When it comes to suffering, it’s hard to understand the reason behind the pain. But God is more interested in our growth than our comfort, and the investment we make in our suffering is one that we’ll see a return on for eternity.

Part of God’s purpose for us is to participate in his family. When we realize that church is not a place we go, but a family we belong to, we can start to realize our purpose on a deeper level. And when we connect as a family, we can own the mission Jesus created for us.

We all want to know why we’re here. When we realize why we’re valuable to God—what he has called us to do—we can live with a purpose that goes beyond ourselves. We were born with a plan in mind and a gift all our own…and when we understand our calling, we can begin to live with the confidence we need to fulfill it.

No one wants to feel like they’re just drifting through life. Living with intentionality means making the most of every opportunity we’re given—and living with the discipline to be all that God wants us to be. Because when we realize that we’re not here by accident, we can start to discover just how meaningful our lives can be.

The new year is a time to restart and make corrections in our lives. But the first step to change is admitting that we’re wrong. To repent is to change direction, and when we realize that Jesus has come for those who know they’re wrong, we can accept the exchange of his perfection for our imperfection.

Life is messy. We try our best to do the right thing, but sometimes the decisions we make leave us elbow deep in our good intentions. This Christmas at LCBC, we'll be talking about what it looks like when we can't get ourselves clean on our own…and what it means when God shows up in the middle of our mess.

God sent his son to this earth to bring us peace. So why do we find ourselves asking for it every chance we get? Jesus provides us with the kind of peace we can rely on despite what we’re going through—his presence is the promise. And when we accept the Prince along with the peace, we realize that he is everything we need to be fulfilled.

We know that all things are possible through God…so why doesn’t it always feel that way? When we see him for who really is, our Mighty God, we can trust that nothing is impossible when we are his children.

Who is the little baby that was laid in a manger that we talk about every Christmas? He is a wonderful counselor—he knows us completely, loves us fully, and is committed to seeing us through. And when we realize that, we can begin to understand that having him is better than having less pain.
