In this concluding message on a healthy spirit filled church we consider three stories from Acts 16. These show us how people from different backgrounds were saved and rescued through the disciples sharing about Jesus and the power of the gospel.

The Christians in the first church were known for praising God. What exactly does that mean, why is it such an important thing for Christians today, and how does it do us good?

Signs, wonders and miracles were a normal part of the early church experience. Do we need miracles to be a healthy church today? Why don’t we see more miracles and how can we overcome this?

The first Christians were devoted to one another and being together in fellowship. What did this look like and what can we learn from them today?

The first church loved finding out about Jesus, through the Old Testament and the teaching of those who knew him. The Bible’s message has never been so widely and easily available as it is in our culture, but how hungry are we to actually hear what it says? 

Many Christians have strong opinions about what makes a good church, but often are just stating their own personal preferences. We look at the very first Christian church to find out what they were like, and why they were so effective. 

Managing our money well is always a challenge; it can feel like whatever we do we’re always one step behind.  Too many Christians either ignore the Bible completely, or look for dubious ‘quick-fix’ solutions.  So what does the Bible really say about handling our finances?

To pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts’ is a summary of the three chapters we have been looking at in this series. Paul encourages the church to be active in seeking the gifts, especially Prophecy, along with challenging motivation, heart attitudes, and how we can all use the gifts of the Holy Spirit. 

When the church meets together, it’s an important time for believers to worship God as a faith community. But what about those present who don’t believe, or are not sure what they believe? How can we ‘do worship’ in a way that helps them too?

A major part of New Testament worship seems to be the individual contributions made by members of the church. How can we make the most of them, whilst avoiding causing unnecessary distractions for the worshipping church?

There is a huge variety of approaches and styles of worship found amongst Christians, all with strengths and weaknesses. However a church worships, the New Testament assumes the worshippers will be adding something to the worship.  What might that look like in practice? 

People’s experiences of church differ wildly, from feeling part of a warm supportive family  to struggling to fit in and connect with others. The Bible’s metaphor of the church as a Body encourages and challenges all of us, whatever our experience may be.   

This morning at King’s we celebrated Easter with some baptisms. But when you think about it, getting baptised and Easter itself are both pretty unusual.  What’s going on and why does it matter?

This week we focus on a famous chapter from the Bible, about Love and how it relates to Spiritual Gifts. These verses are often read at weddings but is that what they're really about? What is the message for all of us?

What does the Bible mean when it talks about believers being baptised in (or with, or by) the Holy Spirit? What should we expect to see or experience today?  Rich carefully examines the development of the idea through the Bible, and draws some (hopefully helpful) conclusions. 

One of strangest gifts that God gives to some Christians is the ability to speak in a language they don't understand. What sort of gift is that, how does it work and what could it be for?

Prophecy is one of the more misunderstood gifts, yet the Bible says we should eagerly desire it. What is it, what is it for and why should we want it?

We sometimes think of ‘gifted’ people as being exceptionally talented, but in the Bible it usually means ordinary people who God enables to serve him in surprising ways. We are all at our most effective for God when we serve in the ways he has gifted us to.  

As an introduction to the series, we look at what spiritual gifts are and what they are for. How are they different from what the world around us thinks of as personal giftedness and it should be used?
