Colleen Coover joined us to yak about her comics. Colleen has a very diverse range of works that all maintain the same wonderful fluid style. For the adults, she has Small Favors and for the kids, you can find her work in X-men First Class, Banana Sunday and much more.

Cloudscape Comics is a local Vancouver collective of some talents cartoonists. Jonathon Dalton has previously joined us, but this time he was accompanied by Jeffrey Ellis , the ringleader of bunch. Both boys just returned from Stumptown and Jonathon†s latest book recieved a fair amount of buzz for its accordian like format.

Brandon Graham is my main man. His books, Multiple Warheads and King City are both logical extensions in the evolution from the great sci-fi comix of the Moebius and Manara. Here it is folks, part one of my interview with Gary Panter . There are 3 parts to this intensive extensive conversation. Gary is one the most influential creators in the comix field. His new book from Picture Box will be sure to please. At nearly 700 pages, split between 2 volumes in a stunning slipcase, this book is one of the most important releases of the year.

Dylan is the industrious publisher behind Sparkplug Comics . Sparkplug is one of the more interesting DIY comix outfits. Dylan has been putting out some great comix by some of the more diverse and independent creators.

This weeks Inkstuds is jam packed with talented folks. In preparation for the upcoming Stumptown Comics Festival in Portland, I was joined by the Stumptown coordinator Indigo Kelleigh and special guest artists (all of whom are awesome and should come back for full interviews) Tara McPherson , Larry Marder and Dave Roman . I am happy to end my month of Women in comix, with one of my favorite small press folks. I first came across the comix of Sarah Oleksyk at Stumptown in October last year. I was really blown away by the great personal storytelling style. Her current series is Ivy and when it†s done, I am sure you will all be pretty blown away.

Jenny Gonzalez is a New York cartoonist making some great messed up comix. Her comic, Too Negative , can be best described as humourous look at a mix of satan and psychwards. She is also a member of the House of 12 .

Diana Schutz has been a key figure in the fine world of comix for 30 years now. From her humble beginnings bagging and tagging comix, to her work at Dark Horse, she has always maintained a passion for the sequential medium. A collection of her Grendel story, Devil†s Child will be coming out in May, and features some great art by Tim Sale.

Liz Baillie is representing comix DIY esthetic. Her collection, My Brain Hurts is a great trip into teen social issues. She creates some fine character filled with realistic issues on relatable terms. I highly recommend checking out her stuff, the collection is so cheap, you can†t pass it up.

Trina Robbins has been invloved in the comics world for over 30 years, from her start as young lady reading comics, to getting involved in the San Francisco underground scene, she has always had a deep love of the medium. MariNaomi has been putting out some of my favorite small press comix lately. Her work is a very honest exposure of her own personal sexual history, in her self published comic, Estrus. The comix aren†t porn, just really interesting look at personal relationships and drama. I really think she a super talented cartoonist and you should check out her stuff.

Megan Kelso has been making great honest inspired comix for the last 15 years. I have been a fan of her work for many years, and am always happy to see her comix. Her latest collection is Squirrel Mother from Fantagraphics. You can also read her fabulous story, Watergate Sue that was published in the prestigious New York Times last year.

Fran̤oise Mouly has been making comix more interesting for the last 30 years. From her start with Raw Magazine , putting out some of the smartest comix one can lay their hands on. Paul is one of my favorite cartoonists right now. I know I say that alot, but anyone who has been listening to any of the review shows, knows that I always recomend his work. He has a nice selection of books from Fantagraphics , as well as regular appearances in Mome . He also colours some comic called Omega the Unknown .

The inkstuds were joined by two stellar creators today. Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra have been doing Y the Last Man for the 5 years, and just released the last issue of their acclaimed series. It was a really neat chat about there collaborative work and the series.
