Guess What You're Gonna Hate?

Tv EN ↓ 115 episodes

Janine and Kate have known each other since 2007. While Kate was being a normal person and participating in wider pop culture, Janine rarely watched TV or paid attention to the state of entertainment. In 2017, Kate aims to correct Janine's mistake by forcing her to watch the best -- but mostly the worst -- that the 2000s had to offer.

Guess Who You're Gonna Punk? 01.04.2019

All right, we’ve finally done it. We’ve caved and reviewed a 90s movie. That’s right, it’s a GWYGH first: The Mask (1994), because ultimately, trash is timeless. You can find The VCR kids on all social media @TheVCRKids or on their website, TheVCRKids.com. Too bad Ashton Kutcher isn’t there to catch your reaction — cause you’ve been PUNK’D!!

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 032: My Beard is Fantastic 27.03.2019

Kate and Janine discuss what was everyone's favorite hospital comedy television show: Scrubs! Listen to our glowing review: not the worst thing on TV. In fact, pretty good for 2007. We now have a Patreon! We'd love your support: patreon.com/hatepodcast. Get exclusive content such as movie notes, letters, and even bonus content! Thank you to Paul Ryberg of Plug-in Missing and The Minute Pod for our...

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 031: Bad At Living 20.03.2019

What do you do when you've amassed mostly useless knowledge of a decade of pop culture? Wipe the board at 2000s trivia, of course! Janine and Kate play a 2000s trivia card game and, once they get frustrated with it, have fun creating their own questions. Thank you to Paul Ryberg of Minute Pod and Plug-in Missing for our amazing theme song. We've started a Patreon! We would love it if you'd support...

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 030: Mii Eye Hurts 06.03.2019

If you played video games in the 2000s, chances are you suffered from a Wiimote-related injury. Kate and Janine detail their Wii injuries (or Wiinjuries, if you will) as well as Kate's Wii championship title. Thanks as always to Paul Ryberg for our theme song. Check out his podcasts, Minute Pod and Plug-in Missing!

GWYGH, Ep. 033: Apologies to 2006 27.02.2019

Janine usually takes any excuse to bash 2006, but she recently watched an actual good movie and wanted to apologize. Kate, however, refuses to apologize for anything, noting that good movies do not make good podcast episodes. We discuss some of the good movies from 2006 in one fell swoop.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 029: Technically Proficient, Mostly Terrible 20.02.2019

Remember Glee? Neither of us do, but we remember the way it permeated society and then seemingly disappeared overnight. We remember being forced to listen to bad covers on the radio. Kate and Janine complain about Glee, bad covers of good songs, and talent contest shows.

GWYGH, Ep. 032: Valentine Violence 14.02.2019

Even if you're having the worst Valentine's day ever, at least you're not being chased by a pickaxe murder, right? Doyin from Pour Life Decision joins Janine to celebrate February 14th by watching My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009), a slasher film so weak it hides behind its 3-D effects and hopes you will forgive it for a weak plot and bad acting. But when you're watching a 3-D movie on a 2-D screen a...

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 028: Gyrating on Screen 06.02.2019

Kate once developed a fixation on the music video for Lady Marmalade (2001), so of course she had to discuss it with Janine. A tie-in for the Moulin Rouge (2001) movie, this remake of the classic 1974 Labelle hit features the musical talents of Pink, Mya, Lil Kim, and Christina Aguilera.

GWYGH, Ep. 31: Smooth, RX 30.01.2019

Kate and Janine both suffer from a cold this week, so they bring back a true documentary on what happens to the body when it's ill: Osmosis Jones (2001), a gross partly-animated film focusing on a white blood cell cop catching a villain virus before it kills his host. Thank you to Paul Ryberg for our awesome theme song. Check out his podcast, Plug-in Missing. Also, be sure to listen for a message...

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 027: Bling Ring 23.01.2019

The only thing Kate loves more than torturing Janine with bad 2000s media is true crime. In today’s minisode, she discusses the Bling Ring crimes, where a group of teenagers targeted and robbed celebrities’ houses and were later rewarded with reality television and a movie. Who says crime doesn’t pay? Big thank you, as always, to Paul Ryberg of Plug-in Missing for the amazing theme song. He’s the...

GWYGH, Ep. 030: Baked Potato Earth 16.01.2019

Janine offers Kate the choice between two delightfully awful science fiction movies: The Core (2003) or Day After Tomorrow (2004), both movies wherein the Earth is trying to kill itself and intrepid scientists have to find a way to survive. Also, thinly veiled political criticism? The 2000s were weird. Thanks to Paul Ryberg from Plug-In Missing for our incredibly catchy theme song!

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 026: Sleepy Corn 09.01.2019

Kate and Janine discuss facts about Chuck Norris. They're not worried about being called out about their veracity because Chuck Norris doesn't listen to podcasts. As soon as two white guys buy a microphone, Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks them in the face. Thanks to Paul Ryberg from Plug-in Missing for the awesome theme song!

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 025: Novelty New Year 01.01.2019

Oof, last night was a trip, huh? But it was all worth it: it's 2019! Shake off your hangover by listening to Janine and Kate discuss decades of New Years' Glasses. Sponsored by: the cup of black coffee you're nursing right now! Thanks to Paul Ryberg from Plug-in Missing for our theme song.

GWYGH, Ep. 029: Murder, Actually 19.12.2018

Christmas is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to murder-ize your favorite holiday romance? Liz and Josh from Bloody Date Night join Janine to tear into a beloved Christmas movie: Love Actually (2003). Clouded by a star-studded cast, this jam-packed collection of interwoven love stories is either a movie you defend passionately or hate fiercely. If you despise the film...

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 024: Dirt Belt 12.12.2018

How do you get those designer shoes you've been eyeing but you can't afford? Simple: slap some dirt on your kid and send 'em off to the department store! If you don't give in to a child's demands, you're a heartless monster. Kate introduces Janine to a morbid, overwrought holiday song: Christmas Shoes by New Song.

GWYGH, Ep. 028: Christmas Spirit Shortage 05.12.2018

Kicking off December right, Kate offers Janine two fun Christmas movies from 2003 with wildly different vibes: Bad Santa or Elf. Tell your friends about GWYGH! Guaranteed to be "lighthearted fun on a cracker," according to Kate's mom's wonderful review. We love you! Thank you so much to Paul from Plug-in Missing for the amazing jingle featured in this episode!

GWYGH, Ep. 027: A Super Cool Skeleton 21.11.2018

Find us on social media @hatepodcast.

GWYGH, Ep. 026: Manic Pixie Hotdog Girl 07.11.2018

You don't want podcasts... safe. You want a hot pod! Amity from The Latecomers joins Janine on this episode to discuss Sweet November (2001), a sluggish, 2-hour long maudlin movie filled with almost every single romantic trope possible... and also a surprisingly passionate defense of hotdogs. With absolutely zero chemistry between leads Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves, Sweet November is a punishm...

GWYGH, Ep. 025: Spiritually Transmitted Disease 24.10.2018

Another spooky week of October means another spooky movie. Why not watch the Thai horror movie Shutter (2004) -- oh, what? You watched the US remake, Shutter (2008)? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! Kate and Janine compare the two plots and discuss their survival plans if ghosts started showing up in their selfies.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 020: No Vampires Allowed 18.10.2018

Kate and Janine live off garlic so they are definitely not vampires. However, they can still appreciate the aesthetic of goths in coffins -- and what better way to do that than to watch the music video for Helena by My Chemical Romance? Tell us your favorite 2000s music video by tweeting us @hatepodcast!

GWYGH, Ep. 024: Rotting From the Inside 10.10.2018

There's something rotten in Ambrose, LA. Maybe it's the town of corpses covered in wax? Nah, it's gotta be this stinker of a 2000s horror movie!
