Often, we find people who want to hurry up and quit. They think "life" is to be "lived" while doing little or nothing throughout their days. Solomon reminds us that there will be plenty of days of darkness/obscurity and we should not rush into that mode of life. It's something that should be weighed out in each persons life.

In this passage, the writer reminds Jews of the "faith" of the past and reminds them that they are in a new day; a new dispensation. As he reminds them of the new era they are in, it is clear that they are enjoying a "better faith". This "faith" is something all of us can be appreciative of.

In todays culture, it appears that anything is allowed in a church setting. Paul reminded the believers of Corinth that God has a design for our services. Listen and see whether or not your services are biblical. You might be surprised.

There's always an excuse available to keep us from doing what we know needs to be done. There's never a perfect opportunity for doing what needs to be done. Today's message reminds us that we need to just do what needs to be done.

We all want to believe that repentance can be found by anyone at anytime. However, such is not the case. What, then, does this mean? Allow tonight's message to remind us of an important, and needed, truth.

Though it's an odd manner in which to express the principle (from our perspective), Solomon reminds us that in our service to the Lord, we have to "trust the process". It can be difficult to cast our bread on the water, but when we do, it always comes back to us. A helpful message.

As a believer/Christian, I have a responsibility to other believers; especially those in my immediate church family. Consider what the writer of Hebrews says to those he wrote to. If we would take our responsibilities serious, it could be a serious help to those we serve beside.

It's amazing how our words can travel back to those we have spoken against. In this passage, Solomon simply reminds his audience to be careful in what they say because it has a way of getting back to others.

When a person lives in such a way that their testimony creates uncertainty in the minds of others, then it really does "stink" for those who care about them. Our lives should be lived in such a way that there is no uncertainty as to the genuineness of our faith.

Believers in Corinth sacrificed preaching for emotionalism and it had a devastating effect on the church. Today, churches are sacrificing preaching for many other things that appeals to the flesh of man and the trade off is just as devastating today as it was then. We still need the preaching of God's word.

"Success" is possible outside of a relationship with God. However, Solomon explains the process is far more difficult if that is what a person chooses for their lives.

New believers in Jerusalem saw a need for the teaching/preaching of the word of God, and for fellowship. Often, people fail to see the need for these things and it is evident by their lack of participation in church events. A practical, helpful message.

In Paul's letter to the believers in Corinth, he made it clear that they needed to grow up in their spiritual lives. No excuse would satisfy him. No excuse would excuse them. They needed to grow up. Today, a need still exist for men and women of churches to grow up in their spiritual lives. Put away the excuses and become what God has called us to be.

The size of ones gift is not what matters; it has to do with how wisely we use the gifts we have been given. Listen and be encouraged by tonight's passage.

What does slothful parenting produce? Proverbs 18 gives us the answer. Parenting is not easy, but if we are parents, we must be willing to put forth the required effort. Listen and be encouraged as it relates to your relationship with your children.

Children tend to mope (if allowed) after they have been disciplined. Adults tend to do the same, in different ways. Christians also tend to mope when disciplined by God. The words of verses 11-13 are very helpful to the Christian who has experienced the chastisement of God in their lives.

When we have failed others, we need to know the right response; not our natural response. Today's passage reminds us of what we should do when we have failed and offended others.

It's hard to appreciate discipline; yet, if we received it as a child, we now see its benefit. The same is true of spiritual discipline. It's not always easy to appreciate at the time, but it is always needed.

Paul encourages believers in Corinth to actually help the church, rather than edify themselves. It's a challenge that still needs to be preached today.

Believers in Corinth corrupted the gift they were entrusted with and caused their gift to work for themselves. It still happens today and is something that must be guarded against.

At times, we believe our testimony can withstand anything. Solomon's words remind us that very little is required to forever ruin our testimony in the eyes of others.

It can be hard to admit, but there are times that adversity has something to do with our actions. Tonight's passage reminds us of such a truth.

Solomon spoke of an attitude he witnessed in his day that is still present in ours today. Most of us have been guilty of seeing this same cycle in our lives. Listen and consider what Solomon observed as he witnessed the lives of others.
