What does it mean to be a Christian living in Chicago? We need to recognize our role as an exile here on earth. It means that I live here, but this is not my home. As residents of the USA, we understand that “our citizenship is in heaven.” It means that we recognize & embrace that we live here as “sojourners & exiles” and that we are here temporarily.

Life can be extremely difficult! We need to be prepared for the difficulties in life. Suffering and pain can feel overwhelming. Life events can be devastating. Because life is not always happy… because life is not always smooth, we need to remember God’s faithfulness in our lives: The prophet Jeremiah tells God that his faithfulness is great when it doesn’t FEEL like it.

: Jesus came to serve! In humility, Christ came to this world not to be served. He came not to just teach, not just to be a good example, He came to die. He died as a substitute for sinners. He frees us from our selfishness and enables us to follow in his ways by serving and sacrificing for others.

Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:4-10

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adopiton as sons. Galatians 4:4-5

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,  equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.
