Good Movement Draws Good Movement
In stockmanship (the art and science of handling cattle in a safe, effective, low-stress manner), we have this phrase . . . good movement draws good movement. It’s this thing that happens when we ask a small group of cattle, maybe a cow, or a pair to move out in a certain direction and their movement draws the whole herd into moving in the same direction. Good movement happens when we approach the cattle with a positive attitude, read and really listen to what they’re telling us, and communicate accordingly. We don’t approach the aware, flighty cattle the same as we do the tame, docile cattle....

The Unhelpful Things We Heard as Kids and What to Say Instead 07.07.2026 20:35
In today’s episode, I’m talking about the unhelpful things we heard as kids, and what we can say instead. As parents and caregivers, it's natural to want to fix, stop, or minimize big emotions. But feelings aren't problems to solve - they’re signals asking to be acknowledged. Rather than shutting emotions down, we can create space for them by staying grounded, validating what our children are expe...
The Tables Have Turned – Tom is Back as the Host 30.06.2026 35:26
Every once in a while, it’s fun to switch things up. In today’s episode, the tables have turned because Tom is back as the host! We’re talking all things ranch, marriage, friendship, healing, and navigating challenges together. Looking back, I never could have predicted that I would get to do the work I’m doing (and truly feel called to do) today. Yet, I'm continually grateful for the opportunitie...
Perspectives... We've All Got Them 23.06.2026 11:44
In today’s episode, I’m talking about perspectives and why we’ve all got them. Recently, I found myself reflecting on this idea during a conversation about change and conflict. It reminded me how easy it is to become frustrated when we only see situations through the lens of our own experiences. We know our daily challenges and our own pressures. But we rarely have a complete picture of what someo...
Why All Feelings Are Valid + the Purpose Emotions Serve 16.06.2026 9:49
In today's episode, I'm talking about why all feelings are valid + the purpose emotions serve. I wanted to revisit this conversation because they are super important, and EVERY single one of them matters! When we learn to view emotions as signals instead of problems, we can begin working with them, rather than against them! When we pause, make space for our feelings, and listen to the information...
Book Review of “How to Deal with Your ____ So Your Kids Don’t Have To" by Eli Harwood 09.06.2026 10:09
In today’s episode, I’m doing a book review of How to Deal with Your ____ So Your Kids Don’t Have To by Eli Harwood. One of the things I loved most about this book is the reminder that good movement truly starts with US. Honestly, it’s not about perfection - it’s about growing our capacity to hold our own emotions, so we’re not unintentionally passing them on. If you’ve ever found yourself wonderi...
When Well-Meaning is Actually Dismissive 02.06.2026 14:10
Sometimes, the people who love us most say things with the very best intentions. Unfortunately, they can still land in a way that feels painful. In today's episode, I'm talking about what happens when well-meaning is actually dismissive. Through experiences like losing my dad, navigating cancer, and living through devastating fires, I've become more aware of how quick we are to search for silver l...
Guilt and Shame... What's the Difference? 26.05.2026 11:30
Something that so many people quietly carry (but often struggle to name) is the difference between guilt and shame. While those two emotions are commonly used interchangeably, they are actually VERY different. Understanding that difference can completely shift the way we move through hard emotions, relationships, and healing! In today’s episode, I’m diving into guilt and shame, and how they’re dif...
Empathy... What Does It Mean? 19.05.2026 16:10
In today’s episode, I’m talking about empathy and what it really means. It’s often talked about like it’s automatically a good thing. But honestly, empathy can be both a superpower and something that quietly wears us down when we aren’t intentional with it. As someone who has always felt deeply for other people, I’ve had to learn the difference between holding space for someone and trying to carry...
How to Help Someone Who Is Grieving or Going Through a Lot 12.05.2026 11:57
In today’s episode, I’m talking about how to help someone who is grieving or going through a lot. I had a powerful moment from a recent Good Movement workshop, where one simple exercise (listening without trying to fix) felt surprisingly hard. Honestly, that makes sense. So many of us have been conditioned to respond with solutions, encouragement, or perspective. When someone is grieving or strugg...
What Boundaries Actually Require 05.05.2026 10:35
In today’s episode, I’m talking about what boundaries actually require. Honestly, boundaries can be tricky. They often come with guilt, second-guessing, and that uncomfortable feeling that we might be letting someone down. Whether it’s saying no or stepping back, it can feel selfish, even when deep down we know it’s what we need. The truth is, boundaries aren’t about shutting others out; they’re a...
Disaster Trauma Recovery + Processing Grief with Victoria Mexcur 28.04.2026 42:58
In today's episode, licensed mental health therapist Victoria Mexcur is back to talk about disaster trauma recovery and processing grief. This conversation feels particularly timely after the recent fires here in Nebraska, and everything we’re still experiencing in the aftermath. While we focus a lot on the fires, this conversation applies to all kinds of situational trauma (i.e., loss, accidents,...
Fire 2.0 Recalling the Nebraska Ashby and Minor Fires 21.04.2026 48:48
There are moments in life that split time into before and after , and this is one of them. In today’s episode, Tom and I are recalling the Nebraska Ashby and Minor Fires. What stands out most during this time? The PEOPLE. Strangers were protecting each other and showing up simply because someone needed help. It’s humbling in a way that’s hard to explain, until you go through it! But experiences li...
When It Hits You Like a Ton of Bricks 14.04.2026 16:16
In the span of just a few weeks, everything has changed. In today’s episode, I’m talking about what it feels like when “it” hits you like a ton of bricks. While everything looks okay right now, that’s not truly the case. The work continues because life keeps moving. What I’m really worried about is what will happen when things finally slow down, and everyone’s nervous systems are no longer in surv...
Living Through the Largest Fire in Nebraska History 07.04.2026 32:23
In today’s episode, Tom and I are sharing what it’s like living through the largest fire in Nebraska history. This isn’t a polished or perfectly processed story. It’s still super fresh, and in many ways, we’re still IN it. What started as concern quickly turned into evacuation and long days of uncertainty. All of that turned into the very REAL possibility of losing not just land, but livelihood, a...
The Only Thing for Certain Is That We’re All Human 31.03.2026 7:40
In today’s episode, I’m talking about the only thing for certain is that we’re ALL human. “This isn’t the disaster you’re making it out to be.” That’s a real comment I saw online about the fires here in Nebraska. Yes, the same fires that, as of this recording, have burned over 700,000 acres AND came within miles of our home. I’ve seen people say things like, “the grass will grow back” or “fire pro...
Anger, Shame, and Releasing Emotions with Caroline Nelson 24.03.2026 45:30
In today’s episode, rancher and business owner Caroline Nelson is here to talk about anger, shame, and releasing emotions. What started as burnout (in motherhood, business, and more) quickly turned into something deeper. Through that awareness came a pivotal shift: recognizing a lack of true worthiness. Not confidence or capability, but deep, internal worthiness. After that, everything began to ch...
What Is Anxiety and Why It’s Hard to Just “Calm Down” 17.03.2026 17:19
In today’s episode, I’m talking about what anxiety is and why it’s hard to just “calm down.” When anxiety shows up, it’s not just an emotion floating around randomly. It’s actually a survival response rooted in our nervous system, because our bodies are designed to protect us! What truly helps? SAFETY! When we feel safe, logic comes back online, and we’re able to think more clearly. If you need mo...
The First Step to Improved Communication 10.03.2026 12:43
In today’s episode, I’m talking about the first step to improved communication. We often jump straight to “What do I say?” or “How do I say this better?” But we bypass the root of it all: self-awareness. If we don’t understand how we’re wired, how our nervous system responds, and how our tone or energy is received, no amount of communication tools will truly “fix” it. Ultimately, improved and effe...
What It Looks Like to Truly Apologize 03.03.2026 11:35
In today’s episode, I’m talking about what it looks like to truly apologize. If the apology includes a “but,” it’s usually not a repair. It’s more like deflection and self-protection. If admitting mistakes didn’t feel safe when we were young, of course it’s going to feel hard now. Safety HAS to exist for honesty and accountability to grow! If this conversation resonates and you’d like to explore y...
How Talking Kindly to Your Body Can Benefit Your Life 24.02.2026 19:44
In today’s episode, I’m talking about how talking kindly to your body can benefit your life. About halfway through this last year, I came across Heal Your Body by Louise Hay. It led me to her book You Can Heal Your Life , and while some of it may sound a little “woo,” something about it landed! Now, I’m not saying affirmations *magically* fix everything. However, I’ve noticed a difference in MY ev...
What Happens When We Step Closer Rather than Backing Away 17.02.2026 14:12
In today’s episode, I’m talking about what happens when we choose to step closer instead of pulling away. My curiosity recently led me to consume I Take My Coffee Black by Tyler Merritt. One of his quotes totally stopped me in my tracks when I heard it: “Distance breeds suspicion, and proximity breeds empathy” (he credits Brian Lawrence). That one sentence captures SO much of what fuels misunderst...
A New Way to Grit Through with Victoria Mexcur 10.02.2026 33:31
In today's episode, I’m talking with licensed mental health therapist Victoria Mexcur about a new way to grit through. Trauma is often treated as a singular, heavy label, but it’s much more nuanced. It’s an experience that impacts the nervous system, creates mental loops, and can disconnect the mind and body in very individual ways. We dive into breaking stigma, repair, and why mental health is ju...
Why Is It So Hard to Admit Mistakes? 03.02.2026 14:16
In today’s episode, I’m talking about why it’s so hard to admit mistakes. I truly believe our willingness (or inability) to admit mistakes has a lot to do with our nervous systems and how they were shaped early on. If you grew up in a home where mistakes were met with grace, understanding, and direction, chances are it feels safer for you to own them now. But if mistakes were met with anger, shame...
What Might Be Under the Perfectionism, Shame, and Self-Loathing with Amber Trejo 27.01.2026 28:44
In today's episode, I’m talking to Amber Trejo, a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in complex trauma and attachment, about what might be under the perfectionism, shame, and self-loathing. Amber explains how complex trauma often forms when there was never a true baseline of safety growing up, how, while it can be painful to realize we might hurt our kids, the repair matters FA...
When the Thing Isn't the Thing 20.01.2026 12:09
In today's episode, I'm talking about what happens when the thing isn’t the thing. In rural and ag spaces, especially, we’re really good at shoving feelings down and pushing through. What’s underneath that “thing” is usually a whole pile of unacknowledged stuff (stress, exhaustion, grief, burnout, and more). Recognizing this gives us so much freedom. It helps us stop shaming ourselves for our reac...
