We’ve always known that women love flowers. But we weren’t told that certain kinds and colors of flowers can be considered by some women to be “flowers for dead people”, as Tom learned first hand on Valentine’s Day. Scott suggests the store where Tom purchased the soon to be hastily discarded flowers, posts a warning notice where the chrysanthemums are displayed.

Of all the things Scott can’t do, changing a flat tire is the thing he can’t do the most. So he is in awe of Tommy’s ability to change a flat in the gravel parking lot of a college he’s never heard of.

Tom and Scott are now regulars at Friend of a Farmer, as the pandemic era requirement is just two consecutive weekly visits. And their next visit entitles them to order “the usual”. Plus, why we’re thankful there are no open mics for those who want to be the next Siegfried and Roy.

Tom yearns for the day in the very near future, when an all clear siren sounds to signify the end of the pandemic. But Scott wonders if that will lead to end of pandemic deniers.

Tom, and the other denizens of their bucolic Catskills hamlet, must load their often pricey vehicles with bags of garbage and recycling to deposit at the Town Dump. Scott proudly takes his bags of paper and plastics in the elevator to the recycling bins, but doesn’t shout, “I’m doing the right thing to save the planet.”

Our podcast has been shown to have a curative, but not preventive, effect on the virus. And it’s not because Scott is a scholar on the 1918 Spanish Flu because he has read the first seven pages of The Great Influenza. Or because Tom earned a PHD through graduate home schooling. But we do hope to get the endorsement of the CDC.

Tom and Scott make the much awaited announcement that they will seek unreelection as self appointed, unelected co-Mayors of Irving Place.
