Getting Through This with Tom and Scott

Although we are not known for our financial advice, we dole out some holiday nuggets of wisdom, like not putting all of your money into anything, since then you’ll have none left. Especially when it comes to buying a $1 million suit.

After months of diligently and enthusiastically fulfilling his duties on the SAG Film Nominating Committee, Scott finds himself at the New York Premiere of “Tick Tick Boom” at a Broadway theater! Plus, why we think the stars would rather hang out with us after a Q&A, instead of getting into their Escalade.

Baby, it’s cold outside, and Tom and Scott salute the concept of layering. We eagerly peruse the Eddie Bauer catalog and other purveyors of cold weather clothing. And we solve the mystery of why people ever chose to live in cold winter places, instead of tropical climes.

If Daylight Savings Time is meant to help farmers, why not have farms be the only place where it takes effect? We shed light on the increasingly early darkness to help you get through the next few weeks. Plus we pitch the idea of why there are so many varied definitions of the word “pitch”.

The Unelected, Self Appointed Co-Mayors of Irving Place are back on their beat, and score a table for brunch at Friend of a Farmer, simply by asking for it. Soon to be a hit Off Broadway show, The Empty Table, which will then move to a larger house on Broadway.

Tom and Scott create Finders Keepers, a show about a detective who searches for personal items that are lost or misplaced. Co-starring Tom’s savvy cleaning woman who usually finds his lost items before he does.

Scott takes the redeye home from San Francisco, and gives the gift of time(the best gift of all), to our listeners, imploring them to tune out the anti redeye skeptics, and enjoy an extra full day of vacation. Tom comes up with a Nobel worthy idea to build museums and entertainment venues at our airports, to turn the drudgery of waiting into opportunities for fun and enrichment.

Tom discovers garbage strewn about the porch of his Catskills Victorian inn, , and later determines the culprit is a bear! Scott is in the Santa Cruz mountains for his nephew’s wedding, where only bears who are registered guests are permitted on the premises.

Our time machine is almost ready to go, except for the minor detail of not yet having the mechanism to allow us to travel in time. But the walk in cedar closets and lie flat seats are already in place. As is our plan to recruit time travel agents.

When Tom’s cousin good naturedly mocks his mountains, the Catskills, he decides not to immediately get on a plane to Boise to confront him. Scott lauds this diplomatic gesture which is surely worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize.

On this podcast, we leave no milestone unturned. Scott gets his booster shot, and despite his mild reaction, walks four miles to attend a screening of George Clooney’s film The Tender Bar, with a q and a with Clooney. Tom suggests that Scott become the first Q and A reviewer. And Scott ponders what question he could have asked that might have led to he and Clooney becoming friends.

Tom invents the expression, “The best parade is the one that’s unexpected.”Scott stumbles upon the Columbus Day parade and watches floats with sash wearing, waving people, and marching bands, as he gawks and walks 20 blocks along the Fifth Avenue parade route.

We salute those who ogle fall foliage, for these leaf peepers are the least dangerous people on earth. We marvel at the teeming throngs in Times Square, observed by Tom upon his arrival from the Catskills, and Scott after seeing his first Broadway show since March 2020.

Sunday in New York. Tom and Scott are On The Town, perusing vintage Playbills at the Broadway Flea. A film screening later that evening, reveals a secret Tom can only now tell the listening public.

Autumn has just begun, but Tom is already dreading winter in the Catskill Mountains. Scott says the upside is that Tom will be able to complain with the other locals about the arrival of the “ski people”. We rejoice and exhale deeply, because we both don’t ski, so all we have to worry about is procuring the proper weather resistant apparel.

Tom and Scott imagine the Broadway musical inspired by Tom’s family reunion last weekend. With so many family members ready to pass judgment on Tom’s handling of the party, Tom sings the showstopper at the end of Act One, “It’s All Up to Me”.

It’s an all new season of the General Assembly at the United Nations, and Scott finds himself in the middle of a security detail for a not famous potentate, on Madison Avenue. Tom and Scott propose that countries in need of money sell the naming rights to their nation.

Tom is about to embark on his first flight since March 2020, and dreads having to wear a mask for that long. Scott puts Tom at ease by reminding him he wore a mask for two and a half hours at our recent Dear Evan Hansen film screening. Tom also hopes he’s seated in the non brawling section.

Tom and Scott start a new movement to destigmatize the “early bird” dinner. They regale us with the tale of their post Dear Evan Hansen screening dinner at a fun and festive Mexican restaurant at 5:30 pm. And they also envision, in a non delusional way, a time when famous actors will go up to fine audience members like them, after screenings.

Tom and Scott see a screening of Dear Evan Hansen, and not only love the film, but also the q and a with the cast! We speculate what it would have been like if Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland did a q and a. Or if a q and a turned bad because of a disgruntled moderator and disenchanted cast.

Tom and Scott continue to champion the truly essential workers who deliver our food and packages, and allow us to purchase food at supermarkets and restaurants. And who provide assistance at stores. They are far more necessary than hedge fund managers and should be paid accordingly.

If only there was a Tom and Scott to help people in 1918 get through the Spanish Flu. There were no podcasts then, only wax cylinders that would have had to be shipped to each listener.

Maureen McGovern was right. There’s got to be The Morning After. Tom and Scott made it through the rain, and celebrate the bright blue, sunny skies ahead after a difficult night for so many in New York, New Jersey and the region. The power of the storm makes us pine for the more benign weather event, snow.
