Cold Start 01.01.2022

Everything failed in the dead of a cold winter night. I don't think we'll be able to get the generators fired up in time...

All Sales Final [Avantgarde Music Challenge 009] 27.12.2021

Avantgarde Music Challenge (AMC) 009 - "Nailed It!" Make a song of at least 30 seconds' length in any style, using at least 3 different tracks/instruments. (Rack modules count as 1 instrument each) All moves and decisions are permanent. You may not use Undo or otherwise make corrections. If you draw a note improperly, or pick the wrong note, or size/loop a media item incorrectly, it stays like tha...

Monsters Like Soothing Sounds, Too! 25.12.2021

I updated my field recorder so that now I can stream audio to Discord and record it on the recorder at the same time. Yay! We celebrated by having fun on Discord with sounds. This is a short clip of some of the results.

Bathing In The Forgotten Temple 24.12.2021

I'm not entirely sure what that tabla-esque sound is near the beginning, but I'm pretty sure it's a wall of triangle waves being run through a SEM filter that is very-nearly closed. CEM3340 oscillators sound very lovely, by the way.

Cleaning Supplies - ICMP [Avantgarde Music Challenge 008] 19.12.2021

Avantgarde Music Challenge (AMC) 008 - "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Lib" Click ANY two spoilers. The two revealed words are your revolutionary new music genre! Please demonstrate it for us with a song. - - - - - - - - - - The words I got to use for my genre are Mutant Ping! So I knew low-pass gate antics would be in order. One oscillator is being opened up by four EGs driven by the gate outputs from...

Cleaning Supplies - Sophie Demands Water 16.12.2021

What happens when you have phone-recorded audio of a yelling cat and a Eurorack system with a sampler module? Let's find out! Please be sure to give Sophie some fresh water from the pitcher. It is the only water that is up to her standards. Obviously.

Kirby Found Mystery Substances In The Rainforest [Avantgarde Music Challenge 005] 15.12.2021

Avantgarde Music Challenge (AMC) 005 - "Kirby Ate My Studio" Make a song of at least 30 seconds' length using the accompanying sample pack. You may edit or effect the samples as you like. OPTIONAL: Try to use every sample at least once. You may also choose one instrument of your liking to play alongside the samples! (The samples come from the SNES game "Kirby Super Star", and are randomly chosen.)...

Slime [Avantgarde Music Challenge 006] 12.12.2021

The challenge: Make a song of at least 30 seconds' length using only the accompanying sample. You may chop and slice the sample, use effects, resynthesize it, etc. No other instruments. Notes: The sample is 120bpm. Your song doesn't have to be, though. This information just helps you slice up the waveform and such. --- I got a new module in my rack... the Erica Synths Sample Drum. It seems to be q...

Sleep It Off [Avantgarde Music Challenge 008] 10.12.2021

Original challenge: Avantgarde Music Challenge (AMC) 008 - "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Lib" Click ANY two spoilers. The two revealed words are your revolutionary new music genre! Please demonstrate it for us with a song. - - - - - - - - - - My selected genre: Vampire barf! I decided Let's Splosh would be essential for this. I started with an oscillator and Delay No More. It went a bit nutty from th...

Temperature Drop 07.12.2021

I think this is the first time I've actually made psytrance. I'm pretty happy with this for a first attempt. 8bit Cipher CV outputs work wonders for filter cutoff automation. Pretty perfect for this kind of thing, really. Also, I still have no noise module. Three oscillators and an extra output on a reverb module are slammed into Let's Splosh to generate "noise" for the hats. Sometimes you've gott...

More Techno Testing 07.12.2021

More goofing around with techno beats. I realize this might be easier if I had a noise source. This isn't some fancy shiny thing I'm super proud of, but it was fun. That's what matters.

Cleaning Supplies - City Sidewalks 06.12.2021

Some nights, it is nice to walk along the sidewalks just outside of your normal routine. Perhaps you'll find techno where you expected ambience. Perhaps you'll even like it. My rack was intended for generative ambient stuff, but it turns out that it's quite flexible. One day, I might just conquer the world.

Cleaning Supplies - Driving With A Purpose, Probably 04.12.2021

Now with extra stereo.

Pen Pals [Avantgarde Music Challenge 007] 04.12.2021

My (first) entry for Avantgarde Music Challenge 007. The challenge was to uncover an emoji from a hidden set and develop a musical piece around that. The catch: You have 48 minutes from the time you reveal the theme to the time you export your audio. The theme for this entry: ⌨

Modular Jam 2021-12-02 03.12.2021

Testing a possible setup for trying to do some live streaming of the modular stuff. Seems promising.

Cleaning Supplies - Shuttered 27.11.2021

They left the asylum to rot, but nobody told us. We withered into the shadows as nature reclaimed the concrete and bones forgotten.

Cleaning Supplies - Lull 23.11.2021

Logic gates and abuse of slew limiters. Fun for days! Original recording was 51 minutes, but I chopped it down to wherever truncation made most sense. I may or may not have fallen asleep during audio review.

Large Things Beating Me About The Face [AMC006] 20.11.2021

Another VCV Rack patch for Avantgarde Music Challenge 006. Embrace the gurgle. It is your only instrument.

Bus Trip to Somewhere 17.11.2021

Some upbeat synth stuff made with no sequencers. Just some clock dividers, adders, rectifiers, and mixers! Let's Splosh!!

Space Shuttle Shuffle 16.11.2021

More voltage-controlled switches! More logic gates slammed into unity mixers! More sloths!? This space flight thing is weird, man. Bravo to the Contour 1 for being an effective shuffle rhythm generator. What a handy clock! I mean function generator.

Reflectn 15.11.2021

Testing an idea spurred by some nonsense that Sonic Kitchen said on Discord. Took the idea and ran with it. This is more of a concept or test than anything, but it was cool enough to warrant sharing. No sequencers used. Just a lot of logic (and 8bit Cipher twice over!).

Kirby Got Bit Today [Avantgarde Music Challenge 005] 14.11.2021

Created for Avantgarde Music Challenge 005, wherein we create things with samples from Kirby Super Star. I decided to try out some sample playback modules in VCV Rack. Sonic mayhem ensues.

Cleaning Supplies - The Logical Piano 14.11.2021

A four-step sequencer goes a long way if you've got a clock divider, a logic module, and a unity mixer. The main sound is a Joranalogue Generate 3. No samples were used in this. I don't know how it ended up sounding so piano-like.

Cleaning Supplies - The Robot That Loved (A Mop Bucket) 13.11.2021

13:12 < meeba> anyways I have a patch going which sounds like a robot jerking off into a mop bucket and then dumping the concoction of robocum and soapy chemical water back all over itself to jerk off again 13:12 < meeba> it rules

Core Dumped 31.10.2021

Decided I'd get weird with the Generate 3. It turns out that Delay No More can't resist joining in for the getting of the weird. Fun ensues. Sometimes it's nice to break free of the restraints of quantized 1v/o CV. Other things I learned for this patch: The Xaoc Tirana II does not handle audio-rate clocks very well. Shame.
