We tend to define our worth by comparing ourselves to others. We are always looking to see how we measure up. We believe the lie that we can use comparison to get rid of our insecurities rather than realizing that comparison is demonic. Belief in the gospel makes us secure in our identity in Christ. The gospel shows me it’s not about what I’m not, it’s about who He is.

We struggle to trust in God’s provision and protection and try to fight our own battles. As long as we do this, we will miss seeing the power and glory of God in our circumstances. God often puts our back to the wall so that we’ll stop trying to save ourselves. The gospel proves that God can do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. We get frustrated when life doesn’t go the direction we want it to, and we often leave God in search of a “better” way forward. We tend to put barriers instead of obeying Christ and his command of being sent. God calls us all to take the message of salvation to others. God did not create us to live a passive life. There will come a moment when God calls us to live a life sent for the mission of God which is to bring hope to all mankind through the message of the gospel. We settle for mediocrity in life because we don’t live with a constant awareness of God’s presence. God sees us, hears us, knows us, and comes to us to be with us in whatever we face. If He would send His Son to die just to restore relationship with us, we know He will always be with us. And if God is with us, what could stand against us. Our natural instinct is to run from danger because we fear we can’t handle what we are coming up against. It makes us cowards. When we trust in God’s power instead of our own, we don’t feel the need to run from danger, but we can run to it instead. Our faith makes us brave, and in our bravery we see the power of God. It’s too easy to fear our circumstances or the people in charge around us, falsely believing they control our fate. When we fear them, we end up on a vicious cycle of despair. When we have problems or needs in life, we naturally seek solutions first and only pray when we discover we can’t meet our needs. Such faithless prayer doesn’t stir the heart of God. When we have struggles, our first reaction needs to be falling to our knees and seeking the Father’s provision, not solving our own problems. Submitting to the will of God wars against every fiber of our fleshly being, and without spiritual reinforcements, we will never be able to do it. Christ’s death on the cross was not only a model of complete submission, it was the means by which we could access to power to follow that example. When we pray, we are supernaturally empowered to trust and submit to God’s perfect plan.

When we forget that we are in a spiritual war between heaven and hell, we don’t understand the role prayer plays in securing victory. Christ hung on a cruel cross so that we’d have the right to war through prayer. When we pray, we are accomplishing more to advance God’s kingdom against the powers of darkness than anything else we do because it engages God’s forces to fight what we can’t fight.

When people hurt us, we don’t think about praying for them. If we do, we pray for God to show them their offense of how they wronged us. We want God to show them their fault!
