Relationships in life can be destroyed because they lack a balance between grace and truth. We see this most in peer, parental, and professional relationships. Jesus led with overwhelming grace and just enough truth. We need to learn how to do this because God has called us to proclaim the message of the gospel, which is the best example of this characteristic.

We think we need to be great preparation, knowledge, and training before we can join Jesus on his mission. Jesus doesn’t train us to send us out. He sends us out in order to train us. Belief in the gospel empowers us to understand that Jesus sends us out with the Power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish things that only He can do. He saves us to send us!

We prioritize others things in our life other than prayer – our fuel for our relationship with the Father – because we aren’t desperate enough for what He could do in our lives. And we don’t know all that we are missing. Christ died to give us access to the Father, and nothing else in the world matters more than leveraging that access through prayer. Far too often we talk a good talk but walk such a poor walk in matters of faith. That is hypocrisy, and it sets us up as enemies of God. For Jesus, talk was cheap. He wanted to see righteous talk convert into righteous action. And even more than that, he wanted to see righteous action flow from a righteous heart. But until our hearts are redeemed by Christ, hypocrisy will always be our story.

We can waste our lives trying to change people who will never change. We don’t have the power to change anyone. We can only invest in those empowered by Christ to change. Often times less is more. Jesus taught us to invest our lives deeply in the most spiritually sensitive around us. That’s the ingredient that will change the world.

We reserve teaching, preaching, and healing for the professionals or for those who have received formal education. We think we have a lane to run in, and that is our job or area of profession. We dismiss adopting this characteristic in our life as if it is an option, when it is actually the call of every believer regardless of gifting, profession, or level of education. Our pride keeps us trusting in ourselves instead of Christ, and because of it we don’t experience the supernatural power of God. When we recognize our frailty and brokenness, humble ourselves before Christ, and seek his help by faith, he shows us his infinite power and outstanding love because he delights in humble faith.

We waste too much time leveraging our lives for temporary securities, but that is utter foolishness in light of eternity. Christ called his followers to leverage all that they had for eternal rewards and then showed them what it looked like to live that way. When we follow his example, we reap eternal treasure.

We tend to align our character with the world instead of with Christ and so we miss our opportunity to change the world as he did. Christ redefined righteousness by an otherworldly ethic, one that ultimately sent him to the cross. When we align with Jesus, we find the resurrection power to change the world.
