What makes a book of science fiction or fantasy great? What elevates it to the best of all? That's a conversation worth having, and we go around on the topic in this episode. And yes, specific books gets named, but not just from our ideas - friends from Discord and Twitter (and even a relative) contributed their thoughts. Did YOU end up getting a shout-out? Listen and see! #fantasy #scifiSpecial t...

Wow, after so many chapters having gone by, Nynaeve and Elayne FINALLY make it to Tanchico. Thom and Juilin are along because of the dangers that may await - and indeed they do. We'll see what they're in for in this episode, and watch for other unexpected circumstances. Such as inebriation! #wheeloftime #WoT #fantasy Image Credit for episode background:  Ibrahim Uzun on Unsplash.comJoin us on...

Join me as I take a comprehensive look at the events of book 9 of The Dresden Files, White Night, where we have the surface tale of Harry trying to solve the case of a serial killer taking out female magic users, set over the top of the greater story of vampire politics, Denarian developments, and Harry's romantic relationships with women... and men??? All all of which leads up to a ghoulishly exp...

Jim is on the record as loving this series. Zach? Hmmm... But after our conversation, what will you think? Should you dive into this classic fantasy series, groundbreaking at its time, now, perhaps not so much? Has it stood the test of time? Join us to see what we recommend. It's traveling time! Rand and his friends (Is it too soon to call the Aiel his "friends?") are leaving Rhuidean, and will spend a couple chapters here traveling through the Waste with myriad conversations and adventures. And they pick up some companions - the kind the Aiel don't kill. In this case, it's a peddler's wagon. Because of this addition, both Rand and Mat will never be the same. Trust us...

Book 8 of the Dresden Files represents a major shift for the overall story, as the deep plot progresses in a big way. Harry's role in all this is going to be significantly transformed by this story, and a minor character becomes pretty major as a result. Drew McCaffrey of the Inking Out Loud podcast joins Jim here in this review episode; we hope you enjoy! Check out Inking Out Loud here:  htt...

Terry Brooks spent over 40 years writing over 30 novels and some short stories in this amazing series. But will you agree? Is it amazing fantasy, or just amazing this many books got written? We've hung out with Perrin for a number of chapters - now let's get back to Rand, Egwene, and the Aiel out in the Waste. We'd left off in the midst of some pretty significant happenings, and there's more to come. You're going to like these chapters - and what we learn? Big things! Continuing on through The Dresden Files, we're bringing in a new layer to the universe in this story - necromancy. But we're not just bringing back the dead, we're also bringing back polka! Time to go on the offense. Perrin is going to get proactive in these chapters, doing, in his own words, what just needs to get done. Plain common sense. But is it? Or is something else going on? The Dresden Files drops some bombshells on us in this book, #6 in the series. And bombshells are meant two ways here - incredible revelations about the deeper story of the series, and incredibly beautiful women, as a primary setting is a adult film studio! We feel like it took us awhile to get over the pain of the last episode, Perrin's return to The Two Rivers and the revelations it revealed. But the pain isn't done, nor are the reveals, as we spend another couple of chapters working through stuff here. All is not as it seems in Emond's Field and environs - join us to learn more! Jim Butcher develops and deepens The Dresden Files world to another new level in Death Masks, and I loved it. The old bad guys are still around, but things have gotten even more complicated. And we have some past acquaintances coming into new roles. The story just keeps improving - and poor Harry remains caught in the crosshairs of situations he'd really rather avoid! What's coming with Season 2 of The Wheel of Time? It's an adaptation, of course, which means changes. Many people loved the fresh changes of Season 1 - but not everyone. Now we're looking ahead and wondering, where will they go next? What might change, vs. what might stay the same? How far will the story progress? Jim's got some ideas, and you may like them. Then again, you may completely hate the...

OK, so Harry's in some trouble. Remember Grave Peril, where he royally ticked off some vampires? And his girlfriend Susan got bitten? Yeah, things haven't gone so well since, these past nine months, and Harry's not in very good shape. And it goes downhill from there! But have no fear - as we explore Book 4 of The Dresden Files, Summer Knight, we have plenty to enjoy, as we dig far deeper than ever...

Oh, man. This is a rough one. We return to Perrin, Loial, and Faile on their Way to the Two Rivers. What awaits is not pleasant. Not fun. Hard to take. There are some key revelations ahead in these three chapters, but also a key gut punch, one of the greatest of the series. Enjoy?
