Fantasy for the Ages

A few months ago Jim had the pleasure of reading The Trials of Ashmount, Book 1 of The Tragedy of Cedain, and absolutely loved it! Zach has since then also read and enjoyed this book, the first of a series. Join us as Jim brings on the author of this fantastic fantasy series, John Palladino, to discuss his book, his writing, the publishing experience, and what we can expect as Book 2 comes out in...

Just what is it that makes some fantasy fiction into "epic fantasy?" And who has brought that sort of game to their writing? That's what Zach and Jim discuss in this episode, going on to debate which authors they are familiar with ought to be considered among "The Best of the Best." See what you agree with, and what they miss.#EpicFantasy  #fantasy Join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/...

Science Fiction did it first, thanks to properties like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Battlestar Galactica. Fantasy finally made it with the help of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Did what? Broke into the mainstream. And for the Zombie Apocalypse what finally got this sub-genre over the hump, from niche interest to broad cultural relevance, was The Walking Dead. Jim has already established...

Great writers can create villains that are just delightful in the absolute worst ways. And such villains? We love to hate on them. It's great to see their demise. We root for them to fall in the worst way. In this episode, Jim shares some of these types of villains, from his reading and viewing experience, the ones he's just relished despising. Come see if you agree, and tell him who he missed. Wh...

Do you have this problem, or is it just Jim? Over the years he has bought SO MANY BOOKS, and honestly he's lost track of some. For this episode Jim took a look through his bookshelves and found some gems he completely forgot he already owned. In some cases, they were already on the TBR; in other cases, they are there now! So many great authors, writing such marvelous works of fiction! As Jim continues to move through his TBR, adding to what he has experienced over decades of reading, how is it shaping his preferences? How wrong will you think h...

There has been SO MUCH MARVEL in recent years. After a few sputtering false starts, Iron Man came out as a game changer, and since then Marvel has been a juggernaut (heh, heh, heh). But is it worthwhile? Is so much Marvel too much Marvel? Can there be too much? These and other questions will get discovered as we, simple Marvel fans, go all expert in our opinionated commentary.
