Jim is joined for this episode by Glenn the Geeky Hippie (of Wot the Adaptation and Non-Terrestrial Half-Life YouTube channels) and Spencer (The Fantasy Files) to discuss the state of Star Wars today. We'll discuss our history with the franchise, our general thoughts on how things stand now - and we'll likely make some general jokes and wise cracks. Want more of Spencer's content? Nynaeve, Elayne, and all their companions complete the last part of their challenging journey, finally arriving in Salidar. And it's all they were hoping for. Jim has been working through the various Stephen King books he's missed over the years. So many books! But this is obviously a special author, worthy of special attention. Jim is joined by a guest, his friend (and Patreon supporter) Eric, an aspiring author and solid Stephen King stan, to discuss the King library, everything from preferences to adaptations, and a bit about the writing itself. Hope...

In these chapters we get the logical, illogical conclusion of the wheels set in motion by Nynaeve (and the Pattern?), as her group seeks passage out of Samara, off toward Salidar. Here we go, the Battle for Cairhien. Rand vs. Couladin. Or is it? But that's only the first chapter. We've got plenty of significant aftermath to see and process as well. Do you use a TBR (To Be Read) list as a tool in your plans for reading literature? Or, if you have a TBR, does IT use YOU? Who is really in charge here? Zach and Jim dive back into The Fires of Heaven, three chapters with Rand, Mat, and the others up against the Shaido outside Cairhien. Fast, intense chapters full of anticipation. Great stuff - especially as Mat tries to escape the pull of the Pattern. Jim's dropping a Midweek Special here, a brief discussion of his ranking of the books of WoT, with rationale based on the contents. All these books are great, but not all equally so. March 2020, COVID comes roaring in and shutting down society across the globe. It was a freaky time, full of anxiety, illness, and uncertainty. Thankfully, while we were all shut up in our homes, isolated from the world, we still had books! In fact, I'm pretty sure reading in general saw a huge increase over these past three plus years - I know my reading has. And that's what I talk about today -...

Spencer and Gabe of The Fantasy Files join Jim for a FULL SPOIL discussion of this exceptional and exciting science fiction trilogy by Blake Crouch. Spence pointed Jim at it after reading just book 1. Jim went on to read the rest of the trilogy before either Spence or Gabe. But now they are all on the same page, ready to talk it out for you.#fantasy #scifi #SFF #WaywardPinesFind Spencer and Gabe o...

Over 200 episodes now - how did that happen? And thank goodness, experience leads to improvement! Thanks for taking time to enjoy our content - in this celebration episode, Zach and I chat a bit about our experiences since starting the show, and then just have fun together - fun we think you'll enjoy. Ironically, Zach's audio equipment broke right near the end of the episode. I mean, it was glitch...

Got some major juggling going on here, as Nynaeve works to manipulate multiple options, anything to get a boat ASAP. For the love of the Light, how long will she have to have Birgitte shooting at her??? Results of desperation are on display in this episode, and perhaps the workings of the Pattern...#thewheeloftime  #fantasy #WoT #TheFiresOfHeavenJoin us on Discord: https://discord.gg/jMWyVJ6q...

Zach and Jim have fun in this episode with a bracket style competition to whittle down who may be the greatest protagonist of SFF. Of course, this is limited by what they've personally read, but there is still plenty to draw from. Think we blew it? Passing through Spencer's city of residence while traveling for work, Jim proposed collaborating on this episode where we would pitch various books and series at each other, eventually landing on a way that one of us would HAVE to read one of the options. Check out this video and get the goods (spoiler-lite) on 24 different books/series that you may want to add to your TBR - and see which one Spen...

Jim came across a list from some years back of the top 100 science fiction and fantasy books of all time, as voted on by readers. Obviously leaving out great reads of the past decade, it still is an amazing snapshot of the best of the best. In this episode, Jim touches on each book briefly, including his familiarly with the book, his thoughts on its placement on the list, and his plan for reading...

A few years ago, Jim stumbled across this quirky, funny, somewhat disgusting, and definitely original sort of zombie apocalypse tale called Zombie Fallout. And he found it sort of like cocaine. Not that he has ever even SEEN cocaine, but we're playing the stereotype - after just that one taste, he couldn't get enough, and he starting doing anything the author (Mark Tufo) was offering. Which makes...

At the time of this recording, there are 31 movies in what is considered the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the MCU). Which one is the best? Or the worst? Jim and Zach get together to spout their wisdom and debate their claims, as they make the case for rating from bottom to top all 31 of these films. Will they agree? Some people find epic fantasy to be too intimidating. So books in the series! So many different characters! Too many places to keep straight! Too large a commitment! In this episode, Jim gives some advice for giving such series a try, flowing from his experience with many such epic fantasy series, including some that have been over 30 books in length.#fantasy #EpicFantasy #ReadingForPleasureJoin u...

Wow, what can we say. Four amazing chapters, revealing so much! The series is never the same after this, for both good and bad. For bonus, Zach was under the weather, unable to go just before recording. Accepting a late invite, Patron and super-supporter Karri stepped in, her first time in front of the camera, and did a fantastic job serving in the "Zach role." Thanks, Karri! Irritatingly, ev...

Time to bring you another spoiler-lite episode, this one with Jim's thoughts on the classic Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman.
