Pastor Travis continues his devotional series on the book of Luke. This week we begin in the middle of chapter 6 and begin examining the Sermon on the Mount.

Proverbs 28:9 is a quick reminder of the reality that God not only communicates with us through our prayer, he communicates through his instructive Word. These two go together.

Monday morning's devotional comes from Romans 8:5-13.

Another strongly worded Proverb about a very important choice we humans make. It's about our response to God's Word. Proverbs 28:4 reduces our possible responses to two: We forsake it, or we keep it. This choice then leads to actions we take as we see wickedness around us.

Wednesday morning's devotional comes from Romans 8:1-4.

Proverbs 28:2 is one of the many proverbs that focus on Kings, national prosperity and leadership. If the goal of great leadership for a nation is Stability, what will produce that goal? Our proverb today points to some answers.

Thursday morning's devotional comes from John 1:5.

This morning we will look at Mary as she visits Elizabeth for refreshment and rest. She is celebrated and writes a song expressing her heart that ought to resonate with our own hearts as we prepare for the Christmas Season.

Proverbs 28:1 is quite an observation. It contrasts two ways of living - wickedly or righteously. And then it points to the life one has following each of these two pathways. There are benefits to living righteously.

Proverbs 27:23-27 is an instruction to be diligent about your calling in life. The passage points out the cause and results of giving attention to that calling and warns us not to forget it.

This morning's devotional will focus on the encounter between Mary and an angel, during which she receives the heavenly message that she will bear the Savior of the World.

Proverbs 27:21 is a warning that praise from others can be a great temptation to think too highly of yourself. Praise, admiration, applause can inflate our sense of vanity and result in pride, self-exaltation, and boasting. It's a test when we receive praise.

Monday morning's devotional comes from Romans 7:13-20.

Proverbs 27:19 and 20 have more impact on our self-understanding when we look at them together. Verse 19 talks about the practice of self-reflection and verse 20 addresses a harsh truth about the eyes of our hearts.

This week Pastor Travis looks at Luke 6:12-19. Jesus commissions the work of the apostles and launches the beginning foundations of the early church.

Do you live by this rule? Proverbs 27:18 contains a general principle and life lesson that needs to be remembered. It's a lesson to pass onto your children and students. It's something to live by: My good, quality efforts will produce good outcomes.

Monday morning's devotional comes from Romans 6:20-23.

A well-known and often-quoted proverbs is 27:17. Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. This verse points to a process (sharpening/whetting) and a desired result (sharpness of edge). The question is, are we engaged in a ongoing sharpening process which is having a good result?
