We have a nagging question of "Is there more than this?" Is there more than what meets the eye. We all have a divine instinct for glory and transcendence. In this passage we see where glory is found and how we can experience it.

In this passage we get to the center of Mark and get to see one of the main messages of the whole book. We learn about our own spiritual blindness and are confronted with the question from Jesus, "Who do you say that I am?"

None of us like to feel insufficient in life. But the truth is, we all are insufficient in some area of life. Despite our dislike of the feeling, it is also the very place where God does some of his deepest work in our lives.

How do we approach God? How can we approach a God who dwells in unapproachable light? In this passage we learn from the boldness of a Gentile woman who didn't base her boldness on her goodness but on Jesus'.

We can all agree that there is something wrong with the world, that there is a brokenness to humanity. But we often disagree on what the root problem is, and so in turn our solutions differ. Jesus has always been offensive in different ways to different cultures. This leads to many people rejecting Jesus. In turn, he prepares his disciples to anticipate rejection. But while people may reject the message of Jesus, we must work hard to make sure it is the message they are offended by rather than the conduct of the messenger. We must aim to live beautiful + offensive lives.

We often find ourselves in situations where it seems like God is delaying "What could possibly be taking him so long?" we ask. Or "Why isn't he answering my prayers?" In this story, we see the unhurried life of Jesus and that he is always doing something in the midst of waiting even we can't discern what.

What seems to be one of the strangest stories in the Bible, is actually a rather beautiful and moving story of the son of God who came to pursue the lost, set captives free and establish a truer and more powerful kingdom, the kingdom of God.

When the throes of suffering hit, the underlying question ascends to the surface: God, don’t you care?
