Discovery Church

All through the biblical narrative, God has been pursuing relationship with people. Jesus didn't come with a new mission, but to continue that mission. While his earthly family doesn't understand what he's doing, he teaches that his truest family are those in the family of God.

Who are the type of people that God uses? In this passage we see Jesus appoint ordinary, reluctant and broken people to do extraordinary things in building the Kingdom of God. We look at who he calls, how he calls them and what he calls them to.

*Sorry for the poor audio* How we view God, impacts how we view his commands. In this section of Mark we see how the Pharisees miss the point of God's command because they miss the heart of God behind the command.

Christianity hangs on the truth of the resurrection of Jesus. If it's true then we are foolish to not devote every part of our life to Him, if it's not true then we are foolish to devote any part of our life to Him. In this Easter message we look at: what we lose if it isn't true, what we gain if it is true, and why it might just be true.

On Palm Sunday Jesus enters Jerusalem to confronts the leaders about who is the true King. Not only does he claim to be the one true King, but also the one true and final sacrifice for mankind.

Jesus is confronted by disciples of John and Pharisees, about why his disciples aren't fasting. He gives three illustrations to prove the point that he is doing something new, and how traditions are different than the mission.

In a culture that is becoming more and more divided, we see Jesus model a form of countercultural hospitality that neither lowers the bar of truth or self-righteously scoffs as others. In Jesus we see an ability to uphold the truth of God's word all the while pursuing those whose lifestyles are radically different.

We all look to something to fix us, heal us or fulfill us. Our focus on this can distract us from our deeper need. In this passage, we see Jesus heal a man's deepest need not just his most immediate need.

Everyone has an agenda for your life, and we are all influenced by those around us. How do we resist the 24/7 bombardment of culture's influence on us as followers of Jesus? In this passage we learn from the model of Jesus who resisted by retreating. Instagram Facebook Website Youtube

We all give authority to someone or something. So the question is not if we give authority to someone in our life, but who or what do we give that authority to. In this passage, we hear the first words from the lips of Jesus. He proclaims this kingdom of God and in this message we look at: The Kingdom, The Call and The Cost.
