Living as a Christian isn't a struggle between law and grace, it's a choice between your old sinful nature and the way of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel, we are freed from law keeping as a means of salvation, and the Holy Spirit's work in us transforms us to love God and love one another.

There are many upsides to being strong-willed and self-sufficient, except when it comes to your salvation. Having an attitude that says "I can do it myself" will not see you reconciled to God and saved for all eternity. The Gospel, on the other hand, frees you from depending on yourself, and gives you the secure hope of One who has done everything on your behalf.

When we lose focus on the Gospel we lose our Gospel joy and we develop wrong motives for doing ministry. When we dwell on God's love for us in the Good News of Jesus, our joy is ongoing and we are free to serve God, not to please Him, but because He has loved us.

If you are a follower of Jesus then you have been adopted by God into His family! This amazing truth is a mind-blowing concept when you consider what we deserve. Through the work of God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit, we become adopted children of God the Father.

Do you understand the relationship between the covenant God made with Abraham and the covenant He made with Moses? It's crucial to understanding the Gospel message of Jesus + nothing = salvation.

Sometimes the "pillars" of the church didn't always faithfully represent Christ. The same is true of church leaders today. If we seek to add anything to, or take anything away from the Gospel of faith in Jesus alone for salvation, then it is not the true Gospel!

The Galatians were having to decide if they believed the Gospel message of Paul or the message of those who came after him. We all have to decide, at some point, what we believe and who we trust as the final authority. Paul says the Gospel he preached wasn't invented by people but was a direct revelation from Jesus!

The Christian Gospel is dogmatic. It is not one of numerous options for salvation. It is the only way of salvation, to the exclusion of all others. This is not popular, but it is the truth of God's Word. So, are you believing the right gospel?

To introduce this new series, Pastor Greg Gardiner did something different - reading the whole book of Galatians! There's a brief introduction and conclusion, but the chief purpose with this approach was to get a 'big picture' perspective on this book before we unpack it in smaller chunks.

You often hear the question, "Why doesn't God do something about all the suffering in the world?" It's often born out of a frustration at human attempts to find an answer to suffering, and so we turn to God. We need to learn what Job confessed: God is His Redeemer. God has provided an answer to suffering: His Name is Jesus!

Job ultimately repented of his attempt to put God on trial for his suffering. And God forgave him, vindicated him to his friends and restored his health, wealth and family. So, are there blessings and rewards to come from suffering?

All suffering has a purpose, and all suffering raises questions. Even Jesus cried out "Why?" as He suffered on the cross. It's not wrong to ask why when we suffer, but we must cry out in trust not disbelief.

When we are suffering, it's tempting to think that it is a random event that caught God unawares, and we now cry out for Him to intervene. But is our suffering a surprise to God? Is our suffering random and meaningless? As we look at the life of Job, we discover that he was never told the purpose of his suffering, but just because he wasn't told the purpose, it didn't mean there wasn't one!

How we handle praise is an interesting insight into what we are living for. It's a give away as to the posture of our heart. Herod Agrippa accepted the worship of people who hailed hailed him as a god, and instantly he died, because God will not share His glory with anyone.

When faced with overwhelming odds, the Christians in Jerusalem go immediately to prayer. It's a great example for us to follow. God is not the last resort - He should be our first. And He particularly loves to answer with a "yes" the prayers prayed for His mission.
