As we finish off the letter to the Colossians, we see Paul and Timothy encourage the church to be a praying church. And for that to happen it needs to be filled with praying people. In the greetings that are given we see the Gospel at work in and through Gospel partnerships. Even though they are brief, they give us insight into what it looks like to live out of our Gospel identity.

The Apostle Paul continues to press in to the applications of living out the Gospel by focussing on the relational dynamics within the household (which in the first century often looked distinctly different from our modern households). The Gospel should impact how we relate to those around us, especially those we engage with the most. How are we to live out this calling in our lives?

This Sunday is Father's Day, and so we are going to have a short break from our Colossians series for a special one-off sermon to examine the love of our Heavenly Father. There were many voices around the Colossians trying to lead them astray from the foundational truths of the Gospel. Paul wanted them to know and be confident in the truth so that they could stand firm against those falsehoods. He lets them know that he is suffering, serving and struggling so that they can mature in the Gospel; and that he does that in Christ’s strength.

This passage highlights the central theme of the book of Colossians - Jesus Christ is Supreme over all. The 'Messiah Poem’ should stir wonderment for our Saviour. It is packed full of Gospel truths that we need to remember as we follow Him. How would our lives, and the lives of those around us, be impacted if we lived every day empowered by them?
