Come Follow Me- Daily Dose

After the death of Joshua and the rest of the generation that crossed the Jordan, there arose a generation that knew not the Lord. How vital it is that we remind ourselves of who God is and our relationship with Him on a daily basis. 

Part of the Law of Moses for the children of Israel was to drive out those who worshipped differently than them. It is so vital that we understand that this is not our law. We are not to isolate ourselves from those who think or worship differently from us. Instead we are commanded to drive out the sin from within ourselves. 

Today we talk about the significance of the Book of Judges, and about the importance of driving sin out completely. 

Joshua teaches the children of Israel that they are to go forward remembering the blessings that they have been given and serving the Lord in sincerity and truth. When the Lord tells Joshua that they have been given the city of Jericho, the were still outside it's walls. Yet for the Lord it was done, it was complete, the children of Israel just needed to exercise faith to receive it. We have been told that our redemption has already been made. In our lives it is so easy to sit back and wait for God to start working. To sit back and think, "I will have faith to do A, B and C, when I see X, Y and Z happen." It is a natural man approach to faith. But it isn't God's approach to faith! He would have us show faith and act first, with the belief that God's actions and blessings will follow. 

In preparation to do something hard, the Lord has Joshua command the people to sanctify themselves. I love that the best way to prepare for something physically difficult was a spiritual preparation. So what does it mean to sanctify ourselves? How do we do it and where does the sanctification really come from? As we enter the book of Joshua, how can Joshua act as a type or shadow of Christ? Today we talk about the name Joshua and how he points us to the Savior. 

Today, as the Lord promises to gather a scattered Israel, we learn that God is a God who seeks. He is a God who can find His lost children and bring them home. In chapter 7, Moses wants the children of Israel to understand that the Lord will never forget them, in chapter 8 he wants the children of Israel to understand the importance of never forgetting Him. 

Today the Lord is going to teach the children of Israel what it means to be in a covenant with Him. 

The Lord makes clear His commandment to remember, and that is a commandment that is still in play for us today.

Here, after Moses teaches the children of Israel about the law, he reminds them that it's not enough just to know the law, we have to be willing to live it as well.
